We have been asked who the favorite Author is, now who is your favorite Artist?
No doubt, mine is Keith Woodcock. His pictures really live! I particularly like the way he plays with lights, as can be seen in this picture here: the sun reflecting in the puddle etc.

Another vote for Trudgian here.
I also have a couple of Ronald Wong prints, he did alot of stuff for squadrons of the USAFE including the well known ‘Dover Patrol’ depicting a couple of F-15E’s off the Dover coast.
Mark Postlethwaite,Robert Taylor and Geoff Nutkins are other favourites.
Wade Meyers has done some fantastic paintings and pencil drawings of the 4th FG aircraft as has Troy White, although the latter’s works can be a bit hit and miss (more hits) in my opinion.

It has to be said that after years of indifferent boxart Airfix have returned to form with some of their very recent artwork.
Also agree with the Ladybird book art, fantastic stuff!

By the way who’s doing the artwork for the new Airfix kits? Has anyone seen the stunning new box for the new Battle of Britain Bf 110 ? Stunning !

Roy Cross
Koike Shigeo
Stan Stokes
and whoever did the paintings for the Ladybird Book of Aeroplanes
cos they’re to blame for getting me interested in the subject !

If you like WW1 stuff, you’ll like Russell Smith’s work

Don’t forget Tim O’Brien. Over the years I’ve been involved with commissioning five paintings from Tim, all of which have been reproduced as prints!
The last of these was in 2009 in connection with 619 Squadron Lancaster ME846. 🙂

Ivan Berryman, artist.
The only oil painting of worth I own is one I bought direct from the artist Ivan Berryman many years ago from his then gallery in Ryde IOW. It portrays an EE Lightning of 56 Squadron (The Firebirds) in vertical flight. It cost me £350! Now it is stored in the loft awaiting a return to duty someday. Ivan is a multi-talented artist as well as aircraft, ships and racing cars come under his skilled eye, his research is impeccable.

Did Roy Cross do the Airfix Short Stirling box art? One of my favourite childhood memories of all time, such a massive early Bomber Command aeroplane captured so well.

I`ve just picked up a framed print called `VC over Arnhem` by Wilf Hardy showing a blazing Dakota in formation, with about 12 signatures on it.I do like Geoff Nutkins work and also Dame Laura Knights `Stirling start up`.Nice to see the old comics and model pictures getting a mention..happy memories.

I can’t say I’ve got just one, there are so many good ones today…and more on the horizon.
But I’ve got to say Keith Ferris has always been a favorite. You can’t help but be impressed with his B-17 mural at the National Air and Space Museum in Washington.
A (very minor) word of advice to painters…please avoid the overly romanticized cloudscapes. They can get a bit “twee”…:D

The late and missed Keith Aspinall, this is a commissioned painting he did for me in 2008. A good friend very much missed.

🙂 i can see your point.I suppose for the non aviation enthusiast it a “nice”piccie but but for the more serious aviation fan.

🙂 This is one of the most famous but never seems to get a mention, why, any thoughts?
Because it’s another Spitfire painting weighed down by cliche’.
It’s up there with the roaming elephants, and majestic swans paintings.

Keith Woodcock is also my favourite. Unfortunately I couldn’t find a better thumbnail of this one which I think is one of his best. My print is too big to scan:). Again, look at the lighting and the ‘painty style’ already mentioned here earlier.
Then there’s also Brian Knight who did some great stuff for Airfix, Revell and Windsock Datafiles.
I’m sure most aviation artists spend half of their time flying around in airliners sitting at a window armed with a camera taking pictures of interesting skyscapes 🙂
