Why aren't LM joining Brazil competition w F-35 ?

It has been dragging on so long now so it is a viable option,
and F-18 ain’t much of a performer, so why not something more up to snuff from US ?
I also keep hearing how US promises tech transfer etc, so that’s not an issue either
