Yes its a close future for a crafts that requires 50% less fuel for the same speed. Its very economical. in today’s trend it is the best transport solution for many contryes and public services.

It is great but the greatest is making my own. It requires plenty of research, but it worth it. On my site I tell the story of my EXOCET, my WIG. I also describe the various step for building one. If you visit VINETY.com, you will anderstand.

Great stuff, we used to draw these things from our imagination as children, who would have thought they would ever have been built 😎
I had the same impression 20 yrs ago. Now I have design my own WIG and it is no more a dream, it’s reality. You can see my WIG on my site VINETY.co,

If you leave ground effect, your no longer a WIG and then you have to comply with aviation rules

WIG – Wing In Ground Effect. so it doesn’t leave the ground cushion to achieve the status of ‘flight’ :p
If you leave ground effect you have to comply with aviation rules.

The best pictures are colour 😉
These are taken from one of my favourite books, Russia’s Ekranoplans by Sergey Komissarov, Vol. 8 in the Red Star series.
Basically. the Russians didn’t have the money to continue development of these massive ‘vehicles’ and smaller craft have found a niche.
By the way, nice pictures ‘Level’

The King of Wigs must be the Russian Ekranoplans, some of them look like the designers have been watching illicit copies of Thunderbirds….Here is a history of them:

And 2 pictures taken from that site:
