Why Worry?

Recently bought a book of poetry by F/O A N C Weir DFC – Nigel for 50p at a carboot sale. He was one of the Few and went missing in Nov 1940. He was just 21….one of his poems is called:

Why Worry?

There is a life in peace and strife
which everyone must live;
we must give our best and go to rest
when we’ve no more to give.

For when the heart has done its part
and can no longer beat,
with love and hope beyond our scope
we may admit defeat.

There is a death, Elizabeth,
for which we all must wait;
and men and war can do no more
than try to change the date –

written in Sept 1939

If you like war poets, there are lots of cheap copies out there, way too cheap given the quality of the words and the cost this young man paid.
