Quick question; wanted one of these for a while, and this looks like a bargain. Can someone more knowledgeable than me tell me if it’s a good way to start, please? Thanks very much indeed.

Kids have fun with ours, but I’m not sure the games are quite as good as for PS3 or XBox360 – but its horses for courses!
I own both a Wii and a 360, and I disagree with this statement. Both consoles have a ton of available games, both good and bad. It all depends on what you are wanting to play.
If you’d like suggestions I can list some of my favorites.
Good luck. Given that the new console comes out next year, it’s a great time to buy as everything is very cheap now. Don’t forget to look into having Wi-Fi in your home as the Wii offers some neat features through wireless internet connectivity.

Yes, that is a good price. There is a new one coming out, but if you want a Wii, so be it. My kids love it and Sports resort is great family fun. If you want to blow up planets full of bad guys and get film-like quality to the battle, then Wii is not for you.
Buy extra remotes. Don’t bother with the sports kits such as fake bats and golf clubs. They don’t make it seem more real and sometimes the remote doesn’t get a signal out of them.
Don’t buy cheap rechargeable battery backs for the remotes. Buy OEM. The cheap ones have a habit of making the remote lose signal. I have not tried stand-alone rechargeables in them.

They’re cheap as there’s a new console coming imminently.

You might want to invest in a second remote if you’re playing with others. Saves passing remotes around.
