Will DD(x) have an escort/aegis role

I am wondering whethter the DD(x) will be mainly a land attack ship or if it will be a true multi purpose escort with Aegis and extensive ASW and Anti-ship capabilities. I can’t believe that the U.S. would build a huge (14,000 ton) destroyer without Aegis (or a better system) and ASW anti-ship ability.

10?!?! The program would be considered a success if 3 ships get built.

The DD(x) family seems to have a case of ZPG (Zero Population Growth). It is supposed to be the ultimate solution to naval warfare but is becoming so pricey that maybe only 10 will be ordered.

Key Enabler of Sea Power 21 vision – DD(X) will be a multi-mission
surface combatant tailored to bring offensive, distributed, and precision firepower at long range in support of forces ashore. DD(X) is the centerpiece of a Family of Ships that will be acquired within a future Surface Combatant Navy construct to deliver a broad range of combat capabilities to the Fleet.
