Also which is the youngest warbird flying in the uk today? Sea Vixen, or Buc(which I believe is capable of flight if a job can be found for it)
Have I missed anything out?

Wouldn’t cars/trucks be cheaper/cleaner/less noisey?
I guess unless you’ve done it as a fresh 17 year old trainee, it’s difficult to perceive the overwhelming sensation of excitement/terror as a screaming jet aircraft (okay a small JP scream but it’s all about the effect) lurches toward you for the very first time on Line Training Flight. It’s not all about the technical ability to marshall, it’s about learing to cope with something very dangerous and noisey poitning right at you, under your control by proxy. A car would just not have the desired effect.
I went from JP’s in training straight to Canberra’s on Sqn and I can assure you without having had that experience with the relatively “safe” JP I would’ve gone to pieces in moments as a PR9 with two Avon 206’s (near enough Lightning engines without afterburners) came hurtling toward me on the big lonely line for the first time.
Sorry for slight topic drift..to bring back on topic, I learned to be a rigger on many of those very Jags! 😎

But utterly useless as a synthetic trainer. Believe me, when you are used to marshalling a pushbike, then a car; progressing onto an aircraft really focusses the mind! That said, the move from JP to Tornado is a pretty big step too…

Any museum could buy one tomorrow, but they will have to pay for the priviledge! Market forces unfortunately. I think a few will filter down to museums in the next few years.

Forgot to add there were I think 10 jags bought that went to the States to be operated, they were looking at getting ex RAF Jag Engineers for them as I was emailed, but gawd knows what happened to it all.

Jags are already are at Cosford and been used for tech training for a long while.
The JPs are used for live taxying to train ground marshallers, when the Training School was marked to come to St Athan they were going to use six Jaguars in this role, the move has been scrubbed but not sure it the aircraft re-equiping will be aswell?
Latest has a possible move for the school to Lyneham I believe.
Tucanos will be next
Lot already gone stateside and are for sale / sold as flyers.

Didn’t I read somewhere that some of them are destined to repace the JPs at Cosford for the engineering training?
