Saw it today, opening day here on the Gold Coast and many other places I am sure.
Based on true events I have to say it was good, well written and acted, and I can’t help get the feeling that just about every war film that is made these days has a strong anti-war message buried within. Brilliant fighting/battle scenes and footage, and very realistic as usuall these days with a big budget production.
I didn’t pay much attention to the hardware but what I saw did appear accurate (enough). The story was engrosing enough and the action, when there was action was relentless and bloody. Apparently it was worse, I heard the other day that they cut out a scene showing US Marines cutting gold fillings out of the mouths of dead Japanese.
One line near the end of the film was stirring to say the least. One of the US marines said:
“In 50 years we will probably be sitting with the Nipponese, drinking their sake, and looking for someone else’s butt to kick”
I liked it a lot, good film.
I gave it an 8/10!!

RE: Windtalkers
Saw it the other day.
I thought it was very good… though a bit sad.
(I had guessed who was not going to make the end of the film by about 1/4 of the way through.)
“Marines were never ordered to kill other Marines (that’s an unlawful order). “
If you paid attention DJ you’d have noticed that at no time was it said by an officer to a marine that that marine should kill another marine. They were told it was their duty to protect the code at all costs and shown that if a Windtalker was captured alive they would be made to talk through torture. The obvious was never stated but it was hinted in a way that there could be no misunderstanding.

RE: Windtalkers
The movie is’nt in my country yet, where always late.
Went to the states and saw some movies, wich where 6 months later in our country. And we are part of western civalesation.
I read the book a month a go and i’m waitng for the film because the book was verry good.
About the killing of other marines, why not?
The code is verry valuable and its woth killing for.
If the code has feld in enemy hands there will be more marines killed than that one codetalker. Its like a navy ship who is making whater in a compartiment. they close it and if some one is in it it has bad luck. but the ship is saved.
cant wait to see the movie!!!!!
greatings, shorty

>>Also, Marines did not like to search dead Japanese because of boobytraps.
I am sure someone you have just killed is not going to be bobby trapped, but anyway, Hollywood does what he likes with history to sell a movie, we all know that.

RE: Windtalkers
Too bad John Woo, the greenie/socialist director, added false story lines to re-write history and “prove” the US military is a villan. Marines were never ordered to kill other Marines (that’s an unlawful order). Also, Marines did not like to search dead Japanese because of boobytraps. Otherwise, it was a good movie.
