Hi all, I was wondering if any of you fine gents can help me. My Dad, who is sadly no longer with us worked with Bill Vale and often recounted tales of Bills time in the RAF. I’ve done some basic searches and have found out he was an Ace, a few times over and was extremely well regarded by his fellow pilots and ground crews. However, when ever I try to search him through military records etc it’s as if he didn’t exist!! I do know on good authority from one of his opos that he and many more disagreed with the higher echelons regarding Bader being a front line pilot, and went as far as to say he was a liability. Are the official record keepers so immature as to strike a good honest man out because he dared to air an opinion or is there more to it. Bill served on the home front as well as on Malta and the Middle East. His tally is most impressive.
Can anyone help in this search or must the truth stay forever hidden.

Thanks for that, yes I have. I’m just saddened that I can’t find any official records. I’ll keep looking. I just don’t want his name or memory to fade. A fine pilot with 30 confirmed kills and 3 shared has to have recognition.

I gather that the reason for the lack of records is that so much was lost during the evacuation of Greece in 1941, the same reason that Pattles record of victories is never officially recognised?
