Lo everybody,
I hope you can help me with this nice but rather strange question.
I read in a book about the history of the F-15 eagle, that there has been a landing of an F-15 that lost his right wing.
This happend in the IDF/AF on 1 may 1983, when two F-15D were involved in a DACT session with four A-4N Ahit. when one of the eagles collided with an A-4, the a-4 crashed but the eagle stayed in the air but only with one wing. The plane lost his enire right wing. But he managed to put the plane back on the ground at an amasing 270kt landing speed (a bit high for an eagle). So this is the question is this possible or was the author of the book just trying to tell a very nice story?
Cause it seems pretty amazing to land a plane with just one wing and why didn’t the plane lost control waht normally would happen when you loose a wing.
regards,
BLS
