Wings BBC series question

Recently started watching the 1970s BBC series Wings? Does anyone have a definitive list of the filming locations? I have read that some was done at Old Warden, Halton and somewhere (Rhinebeck?) in the States but was any filming done anywhere else?

Was really hoping there would be a “Making Of..” feature on the last disc but it doesn’t look like there is unfortunately. Maybe a magazine of the time ran an article along these lines?

Thank you Blue Max!
Who offered the BE to you? Do you have any pictures of it in its current state?

As Far as I know one of the BE2’s was around until recently as we were offered it but it was in a very poor state, i don’t think the Albatros survived 🙁

The Eindecker is the Ex Booker based PPS replica.

I know of one BE2 that is hanging in the squadron at North Weald and one Albatros that is with a local modeller. There may be more of course 🙂

Don’t a couple of the radio controlled models survive somewhere?

Strangely enough, I watched the whole series not so long ago.

Was the Fokker Eindekker the one formerly based at Booker? It didn’t seem to have a rotary/radial-style engine fitted.

For what it was, the aerial sequences were pretty realistic – those big-scale models did look rather convincing!

Sorry to drag up this old thread, but I have just been re-watching this series again, and I wondered what happened to the Replica Albatros CI used for ground/taxiing/cockpit shots and the non airworthy BE2C replica(s) used for the same purposes. Did they survive? Do they still survive hidden somewhere? Are there any pictures of them post-Wings?

Just found out an old photo album I bought years ago, must have belonged to one of the production team.

Thanks very much for sharing these fantastic shots with us. They must come from series 2 filming. What a great find!

Wow, those shots are remarkable, I don’t think I’ve ever seen any production shots for the series before, nor as far as I can recall shots of any of the Be2 replicas in their film markings (with the blue white and red striped rudder)
I loved both series, despite its age it’s a good ‘un.

The mill is now posh flats. Very nicely and sympathetically done too. (Work took me there a month or so back)

Yes I wondered about ‘Beckets Hill’ railway station – the scene is tightly framed and I thought it might be part of a slightly larger station – also was not sure if the path that the couple approached on might have been an old Rail track bed so might even have been a small junction station – but equally might not have been.
Most technical details on the series seemed reasonably accurate although they seemed to have observers with the ‘flying ar5ehole’ wing a little earlier than the badge existed : )

Thanks, Blue Max, that’s really interesting – a few locations there that I haven’t found mentioned before. Looking forward to seeing the Pup episode – that mill is an amazing bit of architecture!

Thank you 🙂 The bit in that thread linking a certain episode (the one with the Pup that I haven’t seen yet lol) to a certain place (Chipping Norton in this case) is just the sort of thing I am looking for. Everywhere I read about it different locations seem to pop up! Was also trying to place the location of Becket’s Hill station (though I suppose it may not actually have been a station at all!)

The episode with the Pup, Viper, was filmed around Chipping Norton,. The factory was in fact Bliss Tweed Mill just outside the town.
From a 1976 filming schedule other filming locations are listed as Old Warden, RAF Halton, Booker (High Wycome) Cardington, MOD Stores Wilstead, and Wood Farm near Old Warden Biggleswade that doubled as “St Marie.
And of course filming took place at BBC TV centre as well.

Tried that thanks Charlie – other than cast it really isn’t helpful in this case.
