We have been busy working on a new rather unique special event at the Wings Museum for Armed Forces Day 27th June.
World War Two Bomb Disposal talk & demonstration!
Saturday 27th June 2015 1st talk 11am – Second talk 2.30pm
The Wings Museum is pleased to announce a special unqiue talk & demonstration on the subject of World War Two Bomb Disposal.
Including:
Bomb disposal demonstration of our unwelcome visitor
Educational talk on WW2 German fuzes, bomb disposal techniques and tools
Display of German electrical bomb Fuzes
This special and unique event will cover the many techinques as used by the men of Royal Engineers Bomb Disposal during WW2. Steve Venus will conduct a talk on the types of fuzes and the methods used by the unsung heroes of World War Two – the men of the Royal Engineers Bomb Disposal Sections who faced terrifying odds in their secret battle against the Luftwaffe.
“Disposal” of our unwelcome visitor:
After the talk Steve will demonstrate the exraction of the Fuze from a German Sd 50kg bomb “that fell during the night after yet another heavy air raid over Sussex”. After the talk and demonstration there will be a special display of Luftwaffe bomb fuzes and Steve will be on hand to answer any questions you may have.
Just incase it needs further clarification please note all items are fully inert and the demonstration is on an inert empty 50kg that was originally dropped on Eastbourne in WW2.

Would loved to have been there. Thanks for the photos redhillwings. Always been fascinated with German WW2 UXB’s since watching the TV Series “Danger UXB” Umpteen times over.

A fantastic day – Thanks to Steve for his talk & mock demonstratoin on WW2 Bomb Disposal, a good crowd turned out in some glourious sunshine. Watch this space for another BD event at Wings in September 2015!!! Some photos from today….

The stage is set for our WW2 Bomb Disposal Demonstration which will take place this Saturday 27th June – first show at 11am and second at 2.30pm. Steve Venus will give a mock demonstration followed by a talk on WW2 Bomb Disposal techniques and Types of German fuzes including the dreaded Zus-40 booby trap fuze. Normal addmission fees apply, if you are not aware of the bomb disposal story then this is not to be missed! There will also be a display of German Fuze including a working clockwork fuze so you can here the sound the Bomb Disposal Squads dreaded. We know of at least one visitor coming all the way from Wales tomorrow!
