I’m sure Capt. Brown would disagree with that statement.
Part of the job of a test pilot…or any good pilot…is to recognize danger and unknowns and plan accordingly.

I think the ‘two survivors’ refers to the particular raft that ‘Winkle’ Brown found himself on following the sinking of HMS Audacity.

This is what my brother had to say about the BBC article:

“This is so depressingly poorly researched-Good in parts I think is generous”

Sums it up for me

Two aircrew survivors may be more accurate

I enjoyed the program, although some of the introduction was also poorly researched-probably by the same person as the written piece

There were more than two survivors from HMS Audacity.
