Again og158, i’m not really in a position to say for sure, as i’m not connected in any way with the aircraft or Personal Plane Services. But yes as far as i’m aware it is still at Booker with PPS. If not, then i’m sure a more learned member of the forum will be along shortly to put me right! 🙂

I’m afraid ole chap thats beyond my knowledge. But i think its being rebuilt to airworthy standards for now, so that when certain issues regarding returning its Napier Sabre engine to an acceptably reliable standard for flight have been addressed, the rest of the airframe will be ready for it… so to speak.!

Thanks for clearing that one up, can fully understand about carrying on with the standard as the problem with the sabre can be sorted out in the meantime. Is the mkV still at Booker with PPS?

I would love to hear a V1 Doodle Bug fire up and run it’s engine!
There’s a couple at Duxford. So how hard would it be. I understand it was a very basic design.

A Tempest would also be great for Legends.
He could wait for the 262 and catch him in the traffic pattern!

Thought kermit weeks had a tempest MkV being rebuilt at one time..is it ready yet?

We could all see with our own eyes what the introduction of it ment back in 44-45!

Many of the highlight appearances at Flying Legends from US aircraft have come from Tom and Dan Friedkin’s stable of warbirds ~ who have been long term supporters of the Air Show.

If you bought a program at the show this year ~ you’ll have noticed that Spitfire I – X4650 forms part of the Friedkin collection.

I guess if we’re all prepared to pay F1 / Premier League admission prices ( £ 50 plus ? ) ~ then the positioning costs / appearance fees might be covered for other operators to bring their aircraft.

Pulling an aircraft apart in the USA and shipping it over to the UK for Legends requires logistical support and accommodation for the pilot and ground crew ~ which all adds to the cost.

Aircraft such as the B-29 / B24 are kept airworthy through selling revenue rides every weekend through the summer. Taking a bomber off the US tour circuit for the best part of a month would be difficult ask for any group.

Back in 2010 ~ Ray Fowler told me that the trip to the UK with B-17G “Liberty Belle” had left them with debts of six figures two years after they came over. It came because Don Brooks wanted to pay a personal tribute to his father.

If my numbers ever come up on the lottery ~ I’ll be plotting to sponsor a visit to these shores by something large and multi-engined from the USA ….. but it would probably blow the best part of a half a million dollars to do it !

I would love to see some unlimited racers at legends. My first choices would be – Bearcat ‘Rarebear’ Sea Fury ‘Dreadnought’ and Griffon powered Mustang ‘Precious Metal’

I have seen them at Reno. But I would go to the leg ends if they where there.

Being one who watched the BAE mossie go in at Barton I would love to see another airbourne as a tribute.
