I don’t normally completely approve of the Daily Mail but this little piece-ette really does sum up how I feel.
I did actually consider calling the thread ‘C**TS’ in capital letters but I think that might have upset the authorities.
And if anyone is wondering, I wouldn’t have been that bothered if the authorities had stuck a cruise missile through the church windows at the funeral in question. I’d have seen that as tidying up another load of sh*t.

Discuss, as ever.

Depends how much wealth he created to get that 19 million though, It pales into insignificance compared to what hedge fund manager Raymond Dalio of Bridgewater Associates earned in bonus last year. Pin your minds back.
3.9 billion dollars.

Bankers are at the moment listed alongside to politicians in the hate department BUT i wonder how many were hated in the boom times when people did get profits with savings policies.
The problem is for me that the pendulum swings too far,who on earth needs or deserves £18 million an shares windfall, one person gets so much and so many suffer the opposite.
You do a job and you get paid for it,if you do really well [beyond the call of duty} then maybe a reward but this is ridiculous especially when things aren’t right.

My partner has worked for the same company for thirty five years, has just gone into his sixth year without any kind of pay increase. Four months ago, both he, and his colleagues, had their salaries cut by one third in order to save the company. Next month, salaries are being increased to 80% of their pre payout levels. Bonus? I think he’s forgotten what the term means. I sincerely hope the bankers go on to enjoy theirs. I have no problem with the ‘ordinary Joe’ within the banking industry, but emotional or not, I’ve got no time for a*******s like the banker highlighted in this thread.

Biggs had to do ‘something’ to get his money: whereas, the Mail article states “… banker Rich Ricci, who celebrated Budget Day with an £18 million shares windfall”
windfall, n, 1. A sudden, unexpected piece of good fortune or personal gain.
2. Something, such as a ripened fruit, that has been blown down by the wind.
1. He must have been really shocked 😮 to get his UNEXPECTED piece of good fortune:rolleyes:.
2. I wish the wind would blow some in my direction!

Definitely. A much better and more interesting question…..
A bit later…. to which I really don’t have the answer. There is so much emotion spouted when the very word “banker” induces paroxysms of loathing. Yes there have been and still are unscrupulous bankers just as there are unscrupulous people in every walk of life, bending the rules, breaking the law, using innocent people to their own ends etc etc. But the “banker” is always the most reviled. Deep-seated envy, perhaps. I slightly know a couple of city traders, who are simply men doing their jobs. One married my best friends daughter and they have lovely unspoilt children. Neither is super-rich and neither has taken excessive bonuses. Both are far better off than I am but good luck to them – I feel no envy nor resentment.
So my answer to the question is that one man broke the law, in doing so caused the death of an innocent man, and escaped punishment for most of his life. He is no hero and should be reviled.
The other man, if he traded unscrupulously and/or illegally is as guilty as any other man who does the same. I despise him as much. However he can hardly be guilty of “receiving a windfall”. How many of us would cross cross our hearts and refuse one (not that we are likely to be in that position )?
That should stir the pot a bit!

Perhaps the question should have been ‘which has done the most harm’?
Rather less clear-cut, maybe.

The big question, which one is the biggest crook?
Barclays have been fined heavily for malpractice yet the fat cats still pick up their obscene bonus’ as if it is their right and privilege.
Well, literally, there is only one answer. Biggs., He is a criminal and the others are not, no matter how dirty you think their deeds are.

I was slightly surprised to see Ronnie Biggs is still with us, but boy does he look ill.
The bankers are far more the crooks I think as I see it as Biggs is really only committed one big robbery which ultimately led to one poor mans death, where as Ricci and his clan are still robbing people everyday and ruined far more lives.
So maybe Biggs has the notoriety but these bankers have probably taken far more and probably done far more damage.

Well, I agree. And thank you for sharing what would otherwise have passed me by as I cannot recall when I last opened the pages of that particular newspaper – certainly not since it became tabloid format.
In fact the photograph of the two sch****ters side by side, gesturing, sums it up perfectly.
