Wizard Prang Ashley and Tony!

Just a great big thank you for all your efforts today at Duxford. It was good to meet fellow anoraks (joke, honest!) and I think you did a splendid job. Except for the raffle, where there were too many tickets that didn’t match my numbers…..

An interesting day, with a totally new crowd of faces, it’s nice to remove some of that anonymity at last. Heres to the next one!

Mark & Paul (who also found it interesting, although he is not really into planes, has never been to Duxford, and has not seen the film!)

RE: Wizard Prang Ashley and Tony!

…what what! sorry, been exposed to too many toffs at work today 😉 I thoroughly enjoyed the whole day, Ashley, a BIG thanks goes out to you for all the hard work you put in both on the day and beforehand, and that applies to Tony D too, well done to the both of you. As for Robert, brilliant talk about my fave war film and I just loved all the info gained, did start to nod off at the end of the BofB documentary tho, ahhh that’s the late nights catching up on me. Great to put names to faces, Snapper’s comments were quite amusing 😀 should have brought the old step ladder though, just had her re-rung too, extended her to 15 steps now, I’ll be up with the big boys at Legends this year 😉

Tom 😉

RE: Wizard Prang Ashley and Tony!

Thanx for the kind words…..but Ashley deserves the lion share.

It was a great day and Seafuryfan & I remarked in the car that it was the first time a trip to Duxford did not involve anytime in the hangars or looking at planes!!

Robert’s talk was superb and as others say the time flew by.

It would be great to do another in warmer times (say, around Legends time). Perhaps with a behind the scenes look at IWM and (hint) HAC, TFC and/or OFMC. We could do that on the weekend before legends perhaps? (By doing that, I can stage through Duxford for the get together, spend a night, bomb up farer north to tour some museums and then do legends on the way back!!!!).

Regards to all and thanx to all for making the day a success and such fun

Tony

RE: Wizard Prang Ashley and Tony!

Hi everyone
Having just got back from shopping with Mrs Dezz around Cambridge!!!!!!! I to must echo everyone else on thanking Ashley and Tony for taking the time to put together such a fantastic day. Roberts talk was indeed very, very interesting and enjoyable, didn’t the time just “flypast” :0 And I would love to hear the 36-hour one! And of course it was great to put faces to names, and every one was very friendly, as for the raffle I didn’t think there was anything wrong with it 😉 (I say looking embarrassed and going very red), anyway I hope this is not the last get-together that we have as it would be great to see everyone again.

Dezz 🙂

Hi All,

I would just like my thanks to Ashley & Tony for sorting an interesting & enjoyable day. A big thank you to Robert for a brilliant talk on the BofB.

It was good to put faces to names & talk fellow enthusiasts (aka Anoraks!)

Thought this picture was apt for the occasion.

Cheers,
Neilly

RE: Wizard Prang Ashley and Tony!

Just to add my thanks as well for a VERY enjoyable day out. Robert’s talk was outstanding and thoroughly enjoyed. He’d suggested the talk could go on for 36 hours but the two hours he did went by in a flash. I’m sure he could go on for 36 hours, his depth of knowledge is truly amazing. It was a real pleasure meeting everyone and it’s something I really hope we can do again.

So, thanks to Rebecca and Tony for their efforts, I look forward to doing it again.

Snapper, the ‘nice man in the red jumper’ was Neil or Neilly.

Regards,

kev35

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 05-01-03 AT 10:39 PM (GMT)]Oops, yes. Sorry Robert. I missed you out! Thanks.

It WAS friendly, as seafuryfan said. But difficult to remember names – very difficult. Because you can’t walk around calling (for example)seafuryfan that in front of non-anorak types. But then if you call him by his name (I’ve forgotten already!) then you forget who he is in your own mind. Confused yet? I am! At least ‘Alexis_Lambert’ was easy to grasp in my hungover state. Although I kept forgetting the underscore. Of course Ashley we COULD remember, and even as Rebecca. (BTW, why the name ‘Ashley’?). (Now who was the nice chap in the red top who likes mossie’s? I knew I should have taken a picture of us all
to put on here.)

Now, how the hell did I miss the coffee? I seriously needed one!

And you can recognise MH434 in the film as it has a little spike poking out of the bottom of the fuselage.

RE: Wizard Prang Ashley and Tony!

May I add my thanks to Ashley, Robert, and Tony for organising todays forum get-together.

For those who are interested, the day went like this:

0900-1100 Arrivals, set up displays, (spotters meet, walkround statics & coffee)

1100-1300 Robert Rudhall slide / video presentation on ‘Battle of Britain’ (during which pin heard to drop).

1300-1400 Lunch.

1400-1500 Viewing of ‘Battle For The Battle of Britain’ video (film promo narrated by Michael Caine).

1500-1600 Questions, & raffle.

Yak 11 Fan, thanks for the Fury pictures. I had wondered where Spencer Flack got his inspiration for his G-FURY colour scheme (check out the spinner). Tony, thanks again for the lifts.

For me, the best thing about today was that the event was totally in keeping with the enthusiastic & friendly atmosphere that makes this forum what it is.
