Will this stop with Iraq? I wonder.
From the AFPC’s MISSILE DEFENSE BRIEFING REPORT NO. 96, March 13, 2003.
SYRIA STEPS UP WMD, MISSILE CONCEALMENT EFFORTS
As a U.S.-led war with Iraq draws closer, Damascus is stepping up efforts to protect its own arsenal of weapons of mass destruction and ballistic missiles, Geostrategy-Direct (week of March 11) reveals. Citing Western intelligence sources, the intelligence newsletter reports that Syria has completed construction of five new tunnels in the north and center of the country. The tunnels, part of a larger 15-tunnel grid planned by the Assad regime, are believed to house Syrian “Scud C” and “Scud D” missiles, as well as chemical and biological warheads. The Syrian tunnel project has been substantially assisted by North Korea over the past year, according to Geostrategy-Direct. Pyongyang has provided technologies, labor and technical assistance to the project, which mirrors similar concealment methods – also involving the DPRK – in Egypt and Libya.

With the US adopting the role of deciding which government is allowed to stay in power it is pretty obvious that those regimes that have had quarrels with the US in the past will now want to protect themselves from a clear and present danger.

Interesting point.
Assuming there is a war with Iraq and it goes quickly, with a minimum of distruction, Syria and others may have second thoughts about the wisdom of continuing with their WMD purchases and programs.
It has been suggested that Syria could be assisting Saddam by hiding some of his WMD and perhaps also acting as a conduit for chemical shipments into Iraq. If a war in Iraq reveals that to be so it will be intersting to see the reaction in certain quarters.
In any event, if North Korea is as involved as those intel sources say, it will climb the evil register a notch or two and that might have interesting results as well.
We can bet that there well be facts, rumours, lies and deceptions a plenty, for us to discuss in the future.
