Just seen that a Spitfire that was lost near venice near the end of the war has had its pilots remains formally identified.

Warrant Officer Coates of 111 squadron.

Rest in peace sir.

A number of Spitfires were lost in the Italian campaign when their bombs went off immediately after release. Very brave men.
