Woodchurch Airshow

Well some more pics to add to those already on the forum.

I think is a great show and nice to se a record attendance. Aerobatics in the name of the Matadors, Will Curtis, etc, etc simply looked stunning at this size of airstrip. .

It was a bit on the hazy side but I am sure part of the reason was a combine harverster the other side of the airfield chucking up crop dust as he went up and down his field. Some of the dust can be seen in the Mustang landing shot.

Well done to everbody who organised the display.

Melvyn – of course – I was forgetting…. Followed by “what were those effing cars doing on the runway…” on the return. Still all three chippies wre obviously correctly positioned at one point – the evidence is here photographically and I dont think that line astern is a photoshop job.

When I got back from the first trip I had to wait while the F86 had a play. Then I had to go back with Shiney Simmons to collect the Hurricane and byt the time I got back from that one the glider was displaying.

The timings got a little adrift which is why I taxied out but did not display, never mind, there is always another time.

No, it was in the hanger all day. I went down at about 5pm and pulled it out so the Staggerwing could get back in the hanger but it was not ouside. There is a very red Wilga sitting on the end of the line but the Dearwings were safely inside.

Silly me! Thought there was something about those yellow tips on the end of each wing. I assumed they must have been slip ons attached to rope to keep the plane from being blown about. On 2nd thoughts probably not a good place from which to tie an aircraft down.

Case of seeing what you want to see!

Took a quick glance at Popham airstrip as I was motoring down the A303 to Dunkeswell. Think I saw your Cloudster sitting comfortably at the end of the line. It was still there on the way back so I guess everybody had their planes in the right place today!

It was a tad bumpy but I fly from Popham so should be used to it.

The hot weather didn’t help, I flew in with Shiney Simmons to get the Hurricane and managed a very passable approach with the speeds right on, the flare was fine but there was just no air underneath and we dropped the last couple of feet (probably six inches but it felt higher).

God knows what he had in his flight bag though!

Imagine riding a pushbike over a rough field that has bare patches from a lot of use and hot weather, is very dry and hard. Now do this at 60mph and that is what some small airfields feel like in small aeroplane at this time.

you fillings only hang on by the skin of their teeth!
