Re #59 – I’m not sure whether the “Bucket List” mentioned referred to Jim eating at the Petwood with his wife or me buying him a drink!! πŸ˜€

You buying me a drink Howard, (But don’t tell the wife.)……:very_drunk:

The whole “Shebang” Howard, made for a very nice day out. I particularly liked the “Bomber Bitter”, which was on tap, but not sold in bottles. It would have been nice to have been able to take a few home, for Christmas.

Thanks for the kind words Howard. I dread to think what it would have been like, had it been a “Forum Lads” day out, something I would have liked, however, that’s another “Bucket List” item crossed off the list.
I would like to go to Cosford next, and see the last Lincoln, and also the one I spent most time in.
Will see you at N.A.M. soon.
Pleased to hear you managed to get some lunch…………..:)

Sorry for the slightly delayed response – too many emails to catch up since my return from across the county border!

It was good to finally meet up with you today Jim and also your wife – sorry I couldn’t stay any longer; but I know that you’ll be pleased to hear that there was some ‘nose-bag’ left when I got back to my meeting. πŸ˜€

I managed to photograph the ex-RAF Woodhall Spa memorial when I returned home and it had even stopped raining. I also recorded the new memorial in Woodhall Spa, although the reflections off the black surface are a bit distracting.

I still owe you a cuppa at NAM – once we get the stocks replenished after the ‘Victor-crew’ drank us dry at the Autumn Aeroboot!

That’s a shame Guzz, we met up with TWOTTER, and what a nice chap he is too, (Specialy when he purchased said promised Pint, and being the gentleman he is is, also got a drink for wifey.
Had a good ole chat, however Howard was missing the buffet lunch, so had to leg it back to the Conference room Bar, before it all went. Petwood House, and the Staff were excellent.Had a very nice meal, in fact, one of the best we have had out for a long time.
Unfortunately, upon arrival at the Museum at Thorpe Wood, it was closed, but all in all, Guzz a nice day out. Next time ?.Oh, saw the plaque you mentioned, and also the Lanc Prop exactly where you said.

IX(B) Squadron’s Australian personnel provided some interesting material for Bardney, including a quite rare photograph of a Grand Slam Lancaster with some unusual aircraft tail markings. Unfortunately it wasn’t quite good enough quality to make the booklet, but it did feature in the booklet launch presentation, which was based around a theme of ‘connections’ – the Log Book that features on the Bardney page belonged to one of the people featured in the ‘Grand Slam’ photograph!! (Both accessed independently around 30 years apart!!)

Thanks for the additional feedback Despkpilot; however I think that we’ve sorted the location of the former RAF Woodhall Spa memorial i.e. it’s now just down the road at Thorpe Camp.

I was aware of the β€˜Upkeep’ remains at the Petwood and I always keep an eye out for it when reversing in and out of the nearby car parking spaces.

You might be interested in an aviation booklet can be downloaded in PDF format by following this link!

The new memorial leaflet is mentioned in this booklet and it will supplement its contents!

Had a reply from Jerry. Here’s some extracts.

Hi Doug

I guess all those replies on your forum pages answers all you needed to know. The only thing I can add is that in the car park of the hotel there is an original (or what is left of it) prototype of the bouncing bomb.

Should be an interesting meeting on Tuessday at the hotel. Regrettably we cannot be there. We will be in Manchester boarding a flight to Bergamo airport in Italy.

Also I am going to an RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight dinner at the Petwood tomorrow night. Cynthia is not too pleased the invite does not include her!

Keep well

Jerry

Just wondering the the Bomb Remains was the memorial you were looking for.
