I know this is a serious subject and I really should act more like a grown-up,but I have to share this.
It’s commonly believed that Muslim martyrs will be rewarded with seventy-two virgins when they arrive in heaven.
In my newspaper today a correspondent mentions something in Richard Dawkins’ book The God Delusion.
Apparently this idea results from a mis-translation.The term virgin can also refer to raisins,so what the martyrs will actually receive are ” seventy-two white raisins of crystal clarity “.
I imagine that might come as a bit of a let-down.

Hopefully they get poisoned ones.

You could get them to sew a distinctive cloth patch on their outer clothing, a crescent perhaps…

No need, they’re already going one better themselves.

Forbid them from owning property? Forbid them from using public parks? Forbid them from using public transport?

You could get them to sew a distinctive cloth patch on their outer clothing, a crescent perhaps…

…can’t use a six-pointed star…..that’s been done already!

Interview their members and keep them under surveillance? Close their registered offices? Freeze their bank accounts? Seize their funds? Confiscate and destroy their documents? Shut down their website? Dismantle their printing, publishing and distribution apparatus?

Switch off their benefits, put them under curfew, give them ASBOs, attach ankle tags, take away their British citizenships, deport them to a country that they crave for with laws they desire.

….and send them to either Afghanistan or Iran where they have as much freedom as speech as they want!

ooooorrrrr………make them watch the whole series of Strictly Come Dancing.

There, sorted.:p

Except that Islam4UK (am I allowed to say that now?) announced that they had given-up their intention to march through Wooton Bassett before they were banned. Did they actually even apply to the council to march in the first place? I doubt it.

How do you ban (the group formally known as) Islam4UK anyway?

Interview their members and keep them under surveillance? Close their registered offices? Freeze their bank accounts? Seize their funds? Confiscate and destroy their documents? Shut down their website? Dismantle their printing, publishing and distribution apparatus?

Honestly, it’s five blokes with a laptop…..not the Pentagon! ‘Mumsnet’ has more political clout!

Anything that leaves our Muslims in peace.

That got you going, didn’t it?

I think the reason they have been banned is to help Police disperse them before they march and cause trouble, as opposed to after, when most of Wooton Bassett will be destroyed in the subsequent bundle.

Islam4UK is being banned under new legislation which prohibits ” the glorification of terrorism “,which seems fair enough.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2010/jan/12/islam4uk-banned-alan-johnson-islamist

If they had wanted to convert the UK to an Islamic state solely by peaceful means, that would have been a different thing altogether.

Incidentally, when I was enjoying my sleepover with the homeless in my church hall,an Islamic gentleman knocked on the door at 2 30 a.m. and gave us two packets of Mr. Kipling cakes for them.

And of course it is the zealots like the members of islam4 uk, who are dangerous fanatics, despite how Creakingdoor sees them, and who are so unrepresentative of the majority of muslims in the uk, of which your frierndly benefactor is just one. We have a few round our way, all of whom despise what is being done and said in their name. As so often it is a crazed minority who spoil life for the majority.

I don’t think lobbying for constitutional change is illegal.

…the logical extension of your second point is that…..the UK becomes a Muslim state under sharia law.

Hardly a logical extension is it? For the record I have absolutely no wish for the UK to become a Muslim state or for any part of UK population to be subject to sharia law but I also don’t want Christian creationism taught in UK schools as is certainly being taught at the moment.

Europe has already lived through the Dark Ages once…..let’s not do it again.

In my view Islam4UK were a small, publicity-seeking, group whose views represented only a tiny proportion of the UK population and banning them has only raised their profile and given unnecessary media coverage to their cause. As you rightly say it won’t change the views of their members and they will still operate as before (in the Community Hall, in-between ‘Street Dancing’ classes and Weight Watchers :D); banning them was exactly what they wanted!

I was amused by a placard held-up outside the court where the ‘Luton Protesters’ were convicted. It said:

“Islam will dominate the world. Freedom can go to Hell.”

And yet one of the defendants Shajjadar Choudhury said that the trial showed the failure of freedom of speech and democracy!

Says it all really.

I can ask the question because Islam4UK stated aim isn’t actually illegal…

…and so long as they use democratic means restricting that aim is oppressive.

In am not sure that your first point is correct, such are the complexities of constitutional law, but assuming it to be so for the purposes of this thread, the logical extension of your second point is that they succeed in their aims and that the Uk becomes a Muslim state under Sharia law. Perhaps you are comfortable with that, but I am not.
