The World Cup is over now and any Newcastle fan will tell you that next season started today, so it’s time to close this thread.

Quite a number of teams didn’t play Italy at all and so, therefore, didn’t lose to them either. :diablo:

but the usaERS were the only team to half-kick italie’s rear end by causing them to score on themselves (new soccer stratergery).

I had the same reaction when a friend sent me the videos.I couldn’t beleive my eyes.Many do hard fouls,get red cards etc,but he seems to be completely non caring about who is in the field,seems to aim not at the ball ,but at the player,some are shockingly intentional and extremely dangerous,it’s like he is thinking that the other players are crash dummies and he is practiving alone.It is appaling how he isn’t disqualified by FIFA or something and how he was chosen for the national team of Italy!Didn’t they have any other more decent fella to put ?

Zidane is at fault and a sad end for his career,but i don’t want to immagine what Mr. Materazzi may have said during the game to Zidane,FIFA is against racism in theory,but i guess it doesn’t count unless they catch you.Maybe they should start putting small microphones on the players’ shirts,since they don’t want to free football fields from butchers.

No true it does not and I thiink it was appaling what he did.

Wasn’t he sent off in the 1998 World Cup for stamping on a Saudi player?

In fact he has been sent of a few times for similer things.
But nothing compared to what is in those vids,they are just brutal, the second one has to be one of the worst fouls I have seen,if it was in public and not on the football pitch he would of been arrested and banged up

IMO France deserved to win,there was a second penalty not given,not to mention the penatly that gave the victory to Italy against Australia…

All in all it was one of the worst competitions i remember,the World Champions,won against Australia (with a fraud penalty),Ghana (no comment),draw with USA and beating Germany (only real encounter) ,only to find France and again win because the 2nd penalty wasn’t given.

Zidane made a mistake to lose his temper,it must have been the tension of the final together with the fact that he was finishing his career and from what i read his mother was maybe at hospital?

Anyway,mistake for Zidane,will remain a stain ,but i must confess,Materazzi is a butcher,not a footballer and i am not surprised that he was the one that made Zidane lose it.It appears that Mr. Materazzi is an expert at being ” a nice person”.

Does anyone share the same opinion as me, that the first round provided the best entertainment..?

No doubt! Italy Germany was the only game from the knock out stages that actually stands out as being a good one, and even then it was 0-0 until the last couple of mins of extra time.
There was plenty of goals in the group stages, a lot of them crackers, it all dried up in the knock out stages with most teams playing defensively, which is why it is a shame Brazil never got going.

I have read that report and no matter what was said to him what he did was not right.If FIFA can prove that the Italian did say somethinig that bad that Zidane did what he did then FIFA have to do something abuse towards a fellow player is just has bad as the diver’s and cheats that are rife in world football. 😡
On a better note Zidane has quite righly been awarded player of the World Cup 😀
