World Tour

I am attempting to complete an around the world tour in 80+ flights.
I’m not a pilot myself as much as I would love to be, so I’m limited to doing this all in Microsoft flight simulator X.

My tour starts in the UK and heads to South Africa before turning east to circle the globe.

I am basically asking the community here if you know of particularly interesting places to stop off along the way. Any unique or challenging airports which would add interest to the tour.

Please feel free to follow the blog / diary I am keeping of the tour. http://Www.HomePilotAdventures.wordpress.com

I’d be happy to hear what you all think.

Cheers
Chris

Cheers for that link Mark. Her route looks like it stops off in quite a few similar locations. Great reading though. I’m sure it will give me a few ideas on my way around.

How far did you make it in total then Moggy? Cairo must be a wonderful sight from the air. Even if only in a simulator.
Im hoping that with the blog, I will stay on track and make it through to the end. We’ll just have to see how it goes.

I saw Carol Vorderman did her first solo flight live on TV and her announcing the fact that she will be following the Earhart route too! I will certainly have to look out for more information about her flights etc. Would be good to have her tailing me 😉

Cheers Tony,

I just reached Gibraltar. The rock is pretty spectacular and what a nuts runway! I’m sure there can’t be many with a road running through the runway! I’m sure there was an airfield in the south of the UK (possibly Kent) which had a road cutting the runway. Can’t remember for the life of me where that was though.

I met CarolAnn Garratt last year at Sun’n’Fun in Florida. She was giving a presentation on the latest of her world tours.
She certainly found a few interesting places en-route. You can see her route and flight log here

I started doing this on MFS once a long time ago. If you visit Cairo you might find a Lear sitting rusting on the ramp where I left it.

I think Gary (I can call him that as he once bought me a pint at The Squadron) got as far as India, but I can’t be certain.

Carol Vorderman is about to attempt it for real.

Gibraltar, especially if its windy.

Have fun, as an anecdote when Gary Numan the singer set off on his http://www.numan.co.uk/ his first stop for fuel was Lasham, but he landed at RAF Odiham in error and got himself arrested 😀

Runways are about 10 miles apart and parallel, he was eventually released to carry on but I do nth think he got far. 🙂
