World's Most Boring Airport?

Osaka! A few years ago I flew JAL to Australia and had to stop off at this GIGANTIC airport terminal for six hours, waiting for a connection to Brisbane. I’ve never been so bored in an airport terminal – as impressive as the whole thing was. As I have digits to keyboard, I shall expand on the subject and bore you all.

The architects seem to have taken the ‘psychology of calming colours’ a little too far, as the interior of the terminal is almost all light grey with a few bits of yellow. In six hours myself and a few other passengers saw only three aircraft movements. There was nothing else to do.

No attempt seems to have been made to provide facilities for ‘foreign’ (i.e. non-Japanese) passengers apart, I think, from a few bilingual signs. Only Yen was accepted everywhere, and even the coffee machine would take only Japanese coins – so no coffee for transit passengers. Also, a surprise was that the duty-free shop was even more expensive than those at UK airports.

This airport has its own train service, a Motorway and a double-deck suspension bridge, all built specifically to serve it. And I gather the whole thing is sinking. With only three movements in six hours, is this the biggest white elephant ever built? Our Millenium Dome fiasco pales into insignificance!

Incidentally, the calming colours mentioned above may be the reason why so many customers shown on ‘Airline’ ‘lose it’ with EasyJet, having so much red in evidence. My goodness, those people at check-in must be masochists. I wonder if ‘Jane’ would like a bit of bondage…

Anyone top Osaka?

Bri 😉

The most boring I’ve been to was Cayo Coco in Cuba, on an internal flight to Havana.

Your left in a small hot room with little or no view (with all the locals).

Having said that the international area was ok, but needless to say not a lot of activity.

NYO… Stockholm Stavska…

Little food shop serving what i called motorway services food.. a little cafe.. ie about 8 tables… a little shop,… no bigger than your local newsagent.. and that was it before customs..

Then once your through.. a little Duty fee shop with a few big label perfumes and a few rubbish gifts… Also no booze/cig’s unless your flying outside the EU,

and a little bar with 2 pumps of draught beer and a small section of bottles and that was it!!!!!

good view out to the taxi way.. but once you have seen one Ryan air you have seen them all….

And that was it!!

i know it is a small airport on the outsides of stockholm, but you would of thought for the amount of flights going through there now a little investment on the shops would make it all the worthwhile..

Cheers

Antwerp. We flew to and from there in 2003. No duty free shop, only one small canteen, a shop which had very infrequent opening. And as for planes – you couldn’t spot because there were no flights until our mid afternoon departure. There was literally nothing to do and nothing to see.

Maybe MAN T3..In the BA Lounge..It’s normally just full of buissness men

As airline lounges tend to be. I can live with it though… Beats spending money ‘buying’ alcohol!

who stare at me, just because i’m a Kid:mad:

Stare back at them, or pretend you’re some rich kid actor who has more right to be there than they do. That’ll wind ’em up. Hmm… Is this my ‘trying to amuse myself in airport No. 14 in 6 days’ side coming out again?!

Faro isn’t nice when you’re stuck there for 5 hours without able to get through to the gates to see the planes. At least they sell Airliner World in their magazine shop!

I’d also like to put forward Corfu!!! Though this was a few years ago.

Similarly a few years ago when I went to Faro I got to see all the planes, though I was jump seating on a round-trip 😉

Daytona Beach (DAB) is fairly dull too…unless you like watching Emberry Riddle students flying around?

The world’s most boring airport, in my opinion, is right on the doorstep – London Heathrow.

There’s nothing to see from the terminal and terminal 3 in particular is just one big queue. These conditions certainly don’t get you into the holiday spirit!
