Germany indeed needs some economical reform. It used to be the “engine” of the EU, now it functions like an engine missing some important spare parts. Germany’s problem start with education. Compared to any other EU-country, Germany comes far behind, even behind some of the candidate memberstates like Poland and Hungary. Children are not obliged to go to school, they have a “free education”, which means they’ll go to school from 9 am till 1 o clock in the afternoon, then they thunder home to play videogames and watch cartoons. Eventually, Germans will become from the most productive the most lazy workers, beating the Greeks (sorry! :)).

If we’re talking economic mass (i.e. the sizre of the economy including GDP and turnover) then the order is:
USA
Japan
Germany
UK
…….
But in reality this doesn’t actually show us very much and also, the Eurozone is the world’s largest economy (except it doesn’t really function like a national or federal economy yet). Also, the list is expected to change soon – Germany will fall behind the UK and China will overtake Germany….
All of my information comes from a friend of mine who recently graduated from the LSE – I personally know **ck all about economics.

If we are talking about economic powers we should have
1. US
2. EU (sorry folks, or at least the Eurozone)
3. Japan

Richest as in the country’s economic power, or GDP, or as in living standards? Both can be really differnet.. Israel has a lower GDP than many countires in the middle east, but it has a higher living standard than many of them.
since the guys here already posted the living standards section.. as a total economic power
its something like..
1. US
2. China
3. Japan

It’s Norway. It has the best standard of living and no people living in poverty. There are countries with higher GDP per capita, but they don’t count because they are too small, like islands with population of only 1000 rich people or something.
