Idly wondering – it’s usually stated that WA591/G-BWMF is the world’s second-oldest airworthy jet, but when does Temora’s Meteor F.8 date from?
Since it has a ‘VZ’ serial, it seems reasonable to think that the F.8 might pre-date G-BWMF, and so is Winston instead the second-oldest airworthy jet, rather than WA591/G-BWMF?
Any Meteor experts out there?

Not the original question I know, but for number of flying hours and length of military service, I reckon Winston (VZ467) wins hands down.

So the oldest will still be (mildly) swept-winged!

Yes, for some reason this debate always gets a bit spirited! The Vampire was, at the time of the original debate, the oldest jet flying, followed by the Sabre, then Winston. The Vampire was, effectively destroyed in the accident, so that’s the end of that one.
The oldest will be FHC’s Me262 when that comes on line – possibly later this year.

WA591 was delivered in August 1949 and VZ467 in around April 1950.
Steve: perfect. Many thanks. If PoF ever get their P-59 flying it all becomes a bit academic, but for now it seems we have 48-178, then six months or so to WA591 and another six months+ to VZ467. Unless I’ve missed something…
And thanks also Tin Triangle: I do recall a Vampire being oldest jet, but for now (strange though it seems), the oldest airworthy jet is swept-winged!

Which is the oldest? I’m sure I remember that it used to be an ex-RCAF Vampire F.3, but ISTR that has since force-landed and not flown since.

Sabrejet you really are taking the michael.
You know you’re right: I was assuming that I was on a serious forum rather than attending a Googling tutorial.
I’ll do it the usual way.

Any Meteor experts out there? I used to have a copy of each machine’s record card, but alas no more.
I was hoping for something a bit more definitive than Google/Wiki/whatever.

possibly even less (or slightly more I suppose) depending on actual date of manufacture

I don’t know on these specific jets, but serial allocation tends to reflect contract date rather than build date
