Wow, check these babies out. Yesterday was a beautiful flying day, warm and clear with a light breeze. As such I decided to take the T-6 out, and I asked my father-in-law to come along and take some photos. Now, this is a man who prides himself on being a very keen photographer.
Maybe he didn’t understand the new camera he got for Christmas?
Maybe it was the fact that he’d never taken a photograph of an airplane before?
The bottom line is that he might as well have used a “Brownie” for all the good these photos are. I made one take off, three low passes, and one landing. Below is the sum total of what was accomplished. I’ve left out two “sky” shots, but you can imagine.
Maybe he’s still ticked off about me marrying his daughter? But seriously, I have to ask…Have you ever seen such pathetic photos in your life?

Oh Dear! The standard of photography in this thread is very poor!
What an astonishing opinion. I think photo number 3 is particularly evocative.
It made me laugh.

Gosh! This is the source of some of my best material. 🙂
Seriously, with good light and stability a 120 format ‘Brownie’ would produce excellent results.
I didn’t think so at the time but I now realise that was down to mediocre printing.
PSP and Photoshop can produce very acceptable images from these old negatives when scanned.
I would suggest that the ‘Brownie’ was the cheap camera of the people. New historic WWII photographs that are likely to surface from UK private collections typically will have used such a camera.

Well, if 35mm Fuji Velvia is roughly equivalent to 27.5 megapixels then even a 100 asa 120 roll film would be way over 100megapixels. The only thing then that could ruin it is the lens and camera shake.
Digital cameras can be good but they aint large format film cameras yet!

I didn’t know Robbo was your father-in-law………………..??!! 😀 :diablo:

And he wonders why I don’t let him loose with the digital camera if I can help it…
Of course I’m not perfect, we all make mistakes, only some of us learn from them :diablo:

About as pathetic as my dear husband’s attempts…at airshows, an aircraft will make a pass along the display line, and then be halfway to Royston before husband has worked out exactly where the plane is in the sky…
Unfortunately I do not have any of his attempts to hand to share with you, but if I did, they would probably look like this:

…Have you ever seen such pathetic photos in your life?
…Yeah, most of mine. I’ve got a cupboard full like that! 😀

Warm weather in December and a T6 buzzing the airfield.
I wouldn’t mind trying to equal or better your father in laws pics.

Hey srpatterson,
As you have experienced, you just can’t trust fathers (in law) to take pictures. I also learned this lesson the hard way.
See some of the beauties my father took during his first (and last) indoor photosession with a digital camera:

Maybe he’s still ticked off about me marrying his daughter? QUOTE]
This story has nothing to do with anything, I just thought about it when I read about your father-in-law.
Early one morning, a few years ago, my dad and I stopped by my sister’s house to pick my brother-in-law up for a hunting trip. This is the conversation that happened within thirty seconds of leaving the house:
Brother-in-law: “Guess what I did last night?”
Dad: “What?”
Brother-in-law: “I had sex with your daughter!”
We pulled over on the side of the road to clean up the coffee that Dad and I both spit on the windshield and realized that since my sister had been married for several years, this probably wasn’t the first time such a thing had happened. I thought it was hilarious, but Dad still gets mad when I mention it.

This airplane was owned before by Jeff Klyman (?), the leather jacket guy. I didn’t paint it. The name was given by John Freeman when he owned the plane. John is the J in C&J Sales in Camarillo, CA, who I have bought several airplanes from.

Steve,
Question what is the Badge on the left side of the aircraft near the nose and did you pick any squadron for your markings.
I do like the Red Flash adds some pop 🙂

We painted the wing tips red, and I was trying to get a good top view.
Also, to be fair to me dad-in-law the fog was rolling in as these photos were taken.
Yeah, I spotted the wingtips–Blane did good.

We’ve probably all got a box full of them but we keep them quietly to ourselves.
Nice T-6 though 😉 😉 😉

Have you ever seen such pathetic photos in your life?
You did ask for it.
ERMMMM No. I have not. 😉 😀
