worst car? whats your oppinions.

the discusion about worst advert drifted onto the subject of cars briefly. this got me thinking, what is the worst car you’ve driven. going from personal experience for me it is a tie between the mini (once owned one, a hateful car and had more breakdowns than i care to remember, and the Austin princess, never owned one, driven a few, all godawful, slow and handled like a barge, mingers one and all. others that come close are the Nissan drizzle oops sunny :diablo: , Vauxhall corsa (nasty tinny rattly thing) all incarnations front wheel drive escort (yuck)
can’t do this without mentioning the best car (from a driving experience point of view) for me its the classic Saab 900. a real drivers car.
over to you folks.

Fair point – people do tell me that riding a motorcycle’s a tremendous thrill, but personally (and with a family motorcycle tragedy in the past), its a risk I don’t intend exposing myself to.

Safe ridings to those who do though!:)

Yes, but motorcycles are deathtraps. No way on God’s earth would I ride one.

Can’t argue against the fact that bikes are more dangerous to their riders than cars are to their drivers. That’s an indisputable fact.

But the rewards to be had are a thousand times greater 🙂 The sheer feeling of ‘being aliveness’ you get at the end of a good, fast ride has to be experienced to be believed. Adrenaline plays a part I suppose.

The other reward is the ability to slide past a huge long queue of stationary, or slow moving cars. Once they are in that traffic the fastest Ferrari and the slowest £30 scrapyard candidate have identical performance figures (Consumption apart)

We each have to make the decision about how much risk we expose ourselves too.

I can see your point. But to me that sort of wrapping myself up in cotton wool in the hope I can one day get to pee my nappy in the twilight home for the elderly, just doesn’t compute.

Moggy

Always amuses me, if you visit the Bike Show, the number of guys hobbling around on crutches trying to decide what to spend their insurance money on. (Amuses, and at the same time, frightens.) 😮

I know mate, but the fact of the matter is that motorcycles can be ridden at 60mph on a twisty road and still look and sound like Joey Dunlop (RIP)… But there are some idiots on the road (there always are) but im just disputing the amount of fatal accidents CAUSED by cars.

Sorry to hear of those deaths, but I’ve seen an awful lot of motorcyclists on narrow country lanes round here driving as if they’re in the Isle of Man TT. There are bad motorcyclists, just as there are bad drivers.

Scars from motorcycling are NOT to be taken lightly. And ACTUALLY, the percentage of motorcycle accidents caused by idiotic car drivers is around the 75% mark. In a car this would result in a bit of nasty whiplash and a written off car. On a bike it would intale either a SERIOUS injury or death. Although i personally am only 17, i have lost 3 friends in motorcycle accidents. The first two (robyn and Mark, to give the deceased names) were both due to a car turning right in front of them without signalling. The driver not only was convicted of dangerous driving (and banned at the time) but was in an insurance write-off and had no insurance. The third (Paul) was rear-ended at 70mph by an executive in a mondeo doing 100mph who was on his phone. So please DO NOT trivialise the situation. It happens, we all know it, but we (and by that i mean motorcyclists) do not have the safety of cars (ie seatbelts, air-bags, abs etc) so are obviously going to have more serious accidents. If people (in general) payed more attention on the roads instead of yabbering on their hands free, listning to the radio, interacting with passengers etc there wouldn’t be so many deaths, would there?

4 wheels = BORING

You never hear of anyone falling off a car !!!!

Two car drivers talking

Driver 1: What sort of car do you have.
Driver 2: Ferrari 355
Driver 1: Nice how fast will it go ?
Driver 2: 160+ Mph, did London to Bristol in 1hr 25 the other day.
Driver 1: Cool.

Two motorcyclist’s talking

Rider 1: What bike do you have
Rider 2: I did have a Suziyama BMX750 but hit some spilt oil on the road last week and came off, bloody car drivers !!! Broke my leg in 4 places and my right arm in 2.
Rider 1; Same thing happened to me on my Hondoid 850CPR, some bloody car driver turn right in front of me, took all the skin off my knees and hands, do you want to see the scars?????

So I suppose bike riders do have more to talk about and at least their scars are a conversation starter !!!! 🙂

Yes, but motorcycles are deathtraps. No way on God’s earth would I ride one.

Motorcycles only have a small amount of tyre in contact with the road at anyone time, even less when cornering, combine that with wet conditions and you have a recipe for disaster. Give me four wheels and a metal cage for protection any day.

Judging how the ‘majority’ of motorcyclists ride, it’s only a matter of time before disaster strikes, and then they will blame the car driver !!!!!

I’m now going to batten down the hatches to avoid the incoming shell fire from the members of the two wheel faction on the forum

Normal road conditions maybe, but that’s not what you said in the first place !!!!

So your original claim still stands as Hog Wash.

A secondhand R1 will set you back £4K and will do 165mph and 0-60 mph in 3 secs. What car for £4K will do that?

Who in their right mind would want to do 165 mph on two wheels with very little protection anyway, and how long could your average motorbike/rider maintain it for ?

well said John C!!

Well said John C!!! Finally someones taking a stand for the motorcycling community!! Most motorcycles can beat cars that cost more than 3-4 times as much. Hell my old C-reg (1986) cruiser is still quicker off the mark than most cars today…
YZF-R1 i just found on Autotrader.com for the same price as the clio- 0-60 in 2.5, 180mph top speed, 80 in 1st gear, can pull away in 5th from the lights. Or you could always buy a clio and put spoilers on it in the vain hope that it’ll ‘increase downforce.’ A SAIL would do a better job… Just think… which of these would YOU prefer to have?

What hog wash.

Prove it then 🙂 In normal conditions, with average drivers/riders a decent sports bike will be faster from A to B on the road than a car. I was always able to easily outpace any car on the road by using traffic conditions and performance.

An R1 or a Fireblade won’t disgrace itself on a closed circuit against 90% of road cars (except for serious kit costing Megabucks or something really focused like a Radical or a Caterham type Mmmmm Radical ).

A secondhand R1 will set you back £4K and will do 165mph and 0-60 mph in 3 secs. What car for £4K will do that?

Hog wash? 🙂

Just remember that 99% of everything mentioned so far wouldn’t have a prayer against a sports bike over 600cc on the road 🙂

What hog wash.

Well, i didn’t like my Citro BX. I mean, tearing an engine block in two??? Me???? Sure it did 215kph, but that was the end of it, i guess.

The car i rate the worst is definately a Ford Ka i once borrowed. If only for the looks on other people’s faces when i got out, wearing my nice wintery People’s Commissioner’s Greycoat.

Worst car i had was my first one a Montego, wandering steering and crap gearbox. I hated that thing with a passion but it was free so i drove it for 3 months. I now have a “Clarksons choice” Vectra that i hate more and more each day it is complete poo but i can’t afford to change it at the min. Cant wait to get rid of it.

Best car i ever had was a rover 800 called Peggy, god i loved that car.

Just trying to think of the worst car that I’ve owned – most embarrassing was a Nova Saloon, but the most unreliable and frightening was a Dolomite 1850. That car (when it ran) would understeer at ridiculously low speeds and the rear didn’t slide, but hopped. I owned it for 9 months and managed 200 miles (Engine blew, gearbox broke, clutch seized, starter motor was intermittant and it would eat condensors every 30 miles causing the points to weld shut.)

For really bad cars see http://www.barryboys.co.uk/mx/

Nah, Camron Diaz in a leather thong, now that’s a fantasy.
