I think that London Luton is the worst. Extremely grotty and ugly. I don’t see why Major airlines such as Monarch operate from there! easyJet like it because it is cheaper than the other airports (i.e. Gatwick or Heathrow) and they don’t like Stansted because of Go and Ryan Air!

RE: Worst UK Airport
If I need to travel to somewhere I can-not get directly to (I do not live in the SE) I much prefer to use Amsterdam than Heathrow. You may have long walks but its all under one roof, none of this bus transfer stuff ! Stansted is nice and i think Brussels was quite good.

RE: Worst UK Airport
Heathrow comes very near the top of my list. Even living a good 20 miles from it, you cannot get a minutes piece. Of course, this does not make it a bad airport. Having never flown from there, I’m not really entitled to an opinion I s’pose! I’m flying with BA on 07 Feb and look forward to taking a look at T1.

Gill Airways also ran that route up until September 2001 when they went bust.

RE: Worst UK Airport
I flew into Humberside once on an Air Uk service from Tees side. Not a very long flight, but a very long drive. I dont think you can do this route now and at the time I was the only person who got on the flight in Tees side for the short hop. i think the aircraft may have originated in Aberdeen. It was quite late when we got into Humberside and the pilot was worried about fog, but we made it. Im not sure if the aircraft went onward to Norwich (Which incidently I think is much worse than Humberside). I like the fact you can park on a minor road and watch aircraft land. I havent been passed that way for a while anything new ?
p.s the runway seems to have humps ?

RE: Worst UK Airport
My Grandparents used to fly from Luton with Britannia and they didn’t like the airport either. I don’t like the look of it when I see it on TV.

Glasgow USED to be okay, until they put frosted glass the entire length of the terminal to prevent anyone watching the aircraft.

RE: Worst UK Airport
I think Heathrow is un-friendly and un-inviting. Stansted is very nice, although i’ve only been through there once !

Liverpool Airport also has trafic lights on the minor road that passes the bottom of runway “27”

RE: Worst UK Airport
Before Southampton Airport was done up,it was absoloutely awful!I can remember a small terminal with no atmosphere at all. There was a bar and a shop and that was all.It was quite shocking. This was in 1992 when SOU was loosing customers, but now after a huge investiment by BA regional and a new terminal the airport is now thriving.

Bristol has a similar method or Flashing Yellow lights to tell you to stop.

I think Humberside is much worse than Luton, it looks just like a tin shed. Although its good, because it is the only airport I know which has traffic lights on the road which go red when a plane is about to land.

RE: Worst UK Airport
I’ve only been too Luton Airport once (well twice round trip to Amsterdam with Easyjet) and I hated it, the cold atmosphere the unfriendliness of the people, the architecture etc. I felt like cattle even before getting into the plane. It’s a bit of a downturn of another very nice weekend in Oxford. Hope to visit a decent English airport soon.
