Would like to know if there are any other photos available

I am in the process of finishing a model of an experimental aircraft from the early days of the Soviet Union.

This is also my first resin kit.

It is a 1/72 scale model of a Chyeranovski BICh 3, a delightful little parabolic delta.

I’m wondering if there are any other photos available of this, other than the two that are in just about every link on this, as I wouldn’t mind making a base for this which would feature a small bit of the flying field, and possibly someone standing next to it.

If I can’t find any other shots of it, that is a small matter, as I’ll just make a base for it, with the usual legend on it.

As my first resin kit, this has been a lot of fun, although some of the parts supplied turned out to be somewhat less than acceptable, such as the tail and wingtip skids, which have small resin whiskers which break off too easily.

In order to remedy that, I’ve been making them out of strut and card stock, which when compared to the three views I have(both what came in the kit and what I’ve gotten from Bill Gunston’s Aircraft of the Soviet Union) are closer to scale, and have proven to be quite the learning experience(I always was reluctant to build anything in 72nd, because the parts tend to be smaller than I’m comfy with).

You can buy grass matting, it’s very good, you just stick it down, then use seed pods for leaves, this is a SciFi one I did

Nice diorama 🙂 Those Ewoks need to mow the grass more often though..:eagerness:

Well it would be about 1 inch high in real life, looking at the picture it has tailskids, so you wouldn’t run it on a hard surface as it would wear it down.

Seen these

Ok.

What would short grass at that scale look like?

Well, the only other photo of the BICh 3 is from the rear of the aircraft, in what appears to be a muddy field, outside of, I think, Moscow. The photo isn’t very clear, and is in black and white, and I can’t see much sign of grass. Here is the photo, maybe you can make something out better than I can.

the base is simply plaster of Paris with acrylic paint added to colour it and a load of tea leaves, then spread it out then stick grass tufts on it while damp and apply gentle pressure to get it to bond, of glue op it on post drying. The ivy is coloured paper 🙂

I can link you to the stuff I used if needed.

I know the ones you’re talking about, and they are about all I’ve been able to find, and one of those has been heavily retouched.

As I said, it is a small matter, not only because I don’t have a lot of experience with making a scale piece of grassy ground, or, as what the photos seem to indicate, muddy bare ground, so I’ll do what sounded to me like the best course of action, to have a nice piece of board, perhaps clear cherry, with a small plaque identifying it. And seeing as I’m in a cranky mood, I’ll try to use legible Cyrillic in addition to English(Chyeranovski looks a lot more impressive in Cyrillic, at least to me it looks that way).

As to the kit itself, I’ve had to make some changes in order for it to look a lot closer to the three views I’ve been able to find. The guy who runs Unicraft, Igor, is really nice, and has a nice line of other resin kits of birds that few have heard about, other than historians. Although they are all 1/72, except for one that is 1/35 in addition to a 1/72 offering, this being a Baumgartl Helio Fly, which was a man-carrying personal helicopter.

If you or anyone else is interested, here is the link to his site, so you can peruse at your leisure, perhaps you’ll find something to your liking.

I googled it and then selected images and there was a few that looked like it.
