Nice WW II story from The Daily Mail !!!!
BlueNoser352 reporting in on this Fathers Day here in the colonies :.. So happy fathers day to all you good fathers out there around the world on the Flypast forum . Saw this story today on the website and thought it was a good sign that time moves on ..not aviation related..but WW II realted … Nice story about a British Commando who helped to take the German port City of Kiel. British Major Tony Hibert and his men untook and dangerous mission. The Major was awarded a medal from the German city for his actions. Not sure If I have seen a story like this ….. a great honor for this British Army Commando. Eariler this month was I was in Normandy .I had the great pleasure and honoring of meeting many Normandy British veterans. A great historical opportunity to talk with men in the year 2010 who had fought in perhaps one of the most critical battles in world history. Great to see them again ..with the many medals gleaming in the bright Normandy sun. Very proud of their accomplishments ……….. it was an honor to offer them a salute for their efforts there 66 years ago !

Wow! That must be unique! And how kind of the authorities in Kiel to remember the man and men under his command who avoided further loss of life on both sides as well as preventing, as is said by Major Hibbert, the possibility of the Russians taking the city and more.
I missed this when you posted it, BN, I was looking for something else but I’m glad I found this. Heartwarming.
