Hi All
having re discovered this box of bits in my shed, i thought it about time i shared it with you, and in the hope that some of the items may be identified.
Now, i have to add that these bits were found via metal detector on an old RFC Aerodrome in Oxfordshire in the 1990’s. having found these bits, i was intending to carry out a larger dig, but came upon the authorities ! after 6 months of battles with the Local Authority, English Heritage, English Nature, all with a negative responce, i gave up !
Perhaps it’s time to try again !

Thanks Bob
Do you think the round instruction plate regarding the ‘gearbox’ is Leyland
Jules
Hi Jules
My thoughts are possibly gun interrupter mechanism instructions “more Sheffield Simplex than Leyland lol”.

Certainly looks like some BE2 stuff in there.

What a fantastic collection of bits.
There appears to be a mix of stuff, some is Royal Aircraft Factory “the tailskid steering arm could be from a late BE or possibly from a Bristol fighter”, some looks like it may be AVRO 504, there is a gearbox from an Elliott brothers RPM indicator “from memory the 80hp Gnome was fitted to Avro 504’s, BE8’s etc”, & what appear to be parts from an R.A.F 1a or 4a engine, part of a clinometer.
Did these bits come from “the green” ?.

Thanks Andy
Yes, that looks the same.

Hi Jules,
You have a great collection of finds, the second photo in the second batch (2165) has a brass strap with holes in it, probably an item used in many aero applications but also found as a Napier Lion water jacket connection fixing.

Lovely finds, well done and good luck with future attempts, hope it goes better with authorities next time. It’s nice to save these things instead of letting them disappear for ever.
