Ive often wondered about the various Kit build type WW1 aircraft,
Who makes them, where do you get the plans , and what are they like to fly ??
we never seem to hear much about them,
and on the other hand !!,
I imagine for people who want cockpits too, they could use these plans to build a mock up, but they are seldom seen, a Fokker DVII or Dr1 or SE5A, etc etc would make a fine companion to any cockpit show i imagine and there size is managable, and i would have thought one of the easiest things to build, as long as you had the plans
any Takers on this subject, or Ideas on it, :);)

Correct the IO 320 is a flat four, the cylinders you see protruding are false cylinders that were made and bolted on under the lycoming.:D
By: merkle - 20th September 2008 at 19:37
Correct.
well if thats the case,he’s done a wonderful job, !!, 😀
I wonder if he saw that Le Rhone engine on Milweb for sale, a few days ago ??
By: DazDaMan - 20th September 2008 at 16:39
Correct.

The engine is a IO 320 lycoming, the guns were made by Paul and they ARE capable of being fired with the use of propane:diablo: Not sure what the CAA would have to say about that though:rolleyes:
Now I am Confused :confused::confused:,
the Lycoming is a Flat horizontal engine, not a radial or Rotary , so that must mean those cylinders protruding from under the Cowl are false ones ???

exremely rare, I imagine in the states there is a Pattern for making very good
Mock up MG08 Spandau guns,

I did read somewhere that an American enthusiast added a bit more realism to his WW1 replica (Nieuport 11, I think) by fitting propane guns to the plane…!
A number of US-based replicas have had these fitted at one time or another. There’s a recent thread about them on TheAerodrome forum link I posted above.
Great Dr1 pics, I almost ducked when I saw that massive head-on shot! 😀
