Some of the early Spitfires had that shape BFP so it could be a …….$$$$$$$$pitfire; ker-ching!!
The seat is reminiscent of spitfire, but underneath doesn’t have the integerally formed attachment points for the “subframe”, so Defiant seems most likely.

The seller did want vast sums for it, and has re-listed it several times, each with a price reduction, but Bruce says its not Mosquito, although seller is adamant it is.

The reason it isnt Mosquito is that it doesnt have a curved top – Mosquito ones have to have the curved top in order to fit the shape of the aeroplane.

Reason I was sure it was from a Spit is it looks very similar to one I recovered eons ago at a crash site, a bit (VERY), battered and broken but awfy similar looking.

ooh if we had a few quid, that would go nicely with our recovered Defiant seat armour!
As for the BFP.
I would say with about 90% certainty that is Cessna Bobcat/Crane

It is definately Spitfire, in fact I think I can just make out the initials DB scratched into the seat back,and the damage on the port side, is consistant with tin leg impact , as the struggling pilot finally frees his trapped leg from underneath the rudder pedal.
Damn – knew I should have mentioned those and the fact that I found it sticking out of pile of gravel dredged from a lake in Northern France!!!! :dev2:
Seriously though I have had it a couple of years and never positively identified it – though the Defiant seems pretty close and I am inclined to believe that is what its off. In the end it is taking up room needed for new acquisitions, so it has to go – did think of mentioning it on here but dont like to plug my own auctions – hope it goes to a good home 🙂
However now I,m here – a shameless plug! :diablo: You may have also noted the “Spitfire” switches – well they could be! 😀 and the Flypast magazines collection also listed 😀

Yes, I saw that and wondered.
I have the Pilot’s Notes for the Mosquito XX and XXV, and the Volume I for the Lancaster X.
Both show the bfp to be based on the shape of a standard Mk IA with curved top, but with cut-outs modified to suit the type of artificial horizon, altimeter fitted.
This one appears to have instruments of all-American or Canadian manufacture, apart from a British art/h which has been slipped into place (notice the “spare” hole at it’s lower right).
The only photo I can recall showing a similarly shaped panel is from a Canadian Anson (it may even be the same one in his ad). Some British built Ansons had a very similar panel post-war.

I agree with the vendor (who visits this forum btw) that it is reminiscent of a Defiant seat.
Unfortunately, and as he says, the control column mountings were attached to the front of the seat and this area appears to have been removed by a previous owner, thus making positive i.d. more difficult.
Alas, the various stamps he refers to don’t mean nuttin’ to me.

seriously though, having made one from the drawings the support channel underneath, is not right, and there is nowhere to attach the seat frame mounts.
