WW2 Bomb tractor / trailers / dummy bombs for a film..

Hi Guys,

Well as usual I’m trying to solve a little filming issue. We have a scene on a WW2 airfield and need to see a bomb tractor towing some bombs out – think Lancaster bomb load, but don’t get yourself too wrapped up with 100% accuracy. Has someone got such a set up?

We’ve looked under all the usual rocks, East Kirby, Hendon etc. It’s a proper film so there’s certainly some dosh available to throw in the kitty.

Thanks in advance, I know the collective knowledge on this forum is mighty impressive!

Thank you,

Taifun

That’s a Clark Mototug I think – we have a postwar Mercury c/w bomb trolley and bombs at Sywell –

Since 1927ish apparently!

When was the type of tug (with the yellow front plate) depicted in the photo first produced?

We have a post-war one at Speke which looks just the same.

TIA,

Anon.

Richard has a fantastic collection of vehicles in addition to the museum buildings. The tug is a new toy, so I’m sure he’ll be happy to show it off!

Somebody had a restoration blog of one over on HMVF a few years ago. IIRC several other members had some as well and were sharing pics and stories, (Gordon M was one). So it may be a good idea to ask over there as well. They come up for sale from time to time.

Bicester Heritage have a David Brown aircraft tug – though not sure if it’s right for period, or whether they’d have the rest.

Well we have a 1,000ILb’er, or whatever the American equivelant is, an original prop from the filming of Memphis Belle…..I can lift it with one hand……but it looked and still looks real!
