Funny this thread should reappear as I was only chatting to my Dad last night about his memories of a Mosquito crash near Cury. He remembers seeing the glow in the sky (from the burning a/c) from the Bowling Green in Helston. He also had a piece of a Whirlwind (fighter) that crashed close to the road to Gunwalloe but unfortunately cannot find this anymore. We visited the crash site a few years ago in the hope that something, however small, might have been on the surface, but of course we are talking about 60 years ago and nothing can be seen.
I have to say it is fascinating hearing his stories. Last summer he took me for a blat in his new hot hatch around the Lizard and as we were driving down one road approaching Predannack from the East he said, “I remember riding down this road with my father in a bread van and we had a Mosquito coming from behind us on the approach and I was saying to Dad (as a 6 year old would), come on Dad, let’s race the Mosquito!” He also remembers seeing Wellingtons being bombed up at Predannack and Typhoons flying over at tree top level on their way into Predannack…
Sorry, I will stop now for fearing of boring you all to death!!

WW2 Crashes in Cornwall
You may have lost the will to live whilst waiting but we have, at last, put a comprehensive crash log for WW2 Cornwall on to www.rafdavidstowmoor.org Hope this is useful.

A gentleman at my local flying club at Bodmin, remembers when as an ATC Cadet he had a flight in a Fairey Fulmar at RNAS Vulture at St. Merryn. On the way back to wherever it was based, he recalled that it crashed with the loss of the pilot somewhere in either Devon or Cornwall.
We have tried (well made a few enquiries), but never found its identity. Think would be nice to know.

the link for the tintagel crash, really does make for a fascinating read, the pilots report really is quite gripping, thanks for sharing that with us newforest 🙂
No prob! That’s what we are here for, education and elucidation. Haven’t even finished reading it myself, it is filed for the rainy or snowy day tomorrow.:)

The ‘EDIT button on the right is for amending or adding to your initial posts!:)
You can start with this accident at Tintagel.

And if you wanted to go as far as Dartmoor, this looks interesting!

I know one chap who has documented every crash and location in Cornwall, and another that has listed every Luftwaffe crash in Cornwall. However both are very protective of their research, If I can get contact for you I will PM you.
There are some well known ones, such as the Liberator at Watergate and Beaufighter at Ventongimps, but there are lots of sites in total.
Most sites have been well dug, apparently major chunks were recovered from the Beau dig, would love to know where they ended up?
A good referance for general info is the Aviation in Cornwall book.
