Hey,
I’m back online after Xmas and there seems to be some interesting movements on this topic.
To answer one of the questions, I have no interest in specific MUs other than the fact I once had offices and a warehouse on an old MU in Worcestershire and I often tried to picture what happened there during WW2.
Now it is more a case that I read an aircraft history and find that after an accident it was sent to such-and-such an MU. I’d then like to know where that was and wat that particular unit specialised in.
Looking forward to the possibility of it appearing on a web site

I can be reached at info@flight-history.com. I am concerned about copyright issues so I would need to contact the publisher before we could post the material. It might be a simple thing to get proper permissions. Our first concern is to protect the rights of the copyright holder.

Pass on your e-mail address and I will see what I can do,most of the information you require is in a book entitled “RAF Flying, Training and Support Units” by Ray Sturtivant, John Hamlin and James Halley published in 1997 by Air Britain. This reference book comes highly recommended and I will transcribe if necessary.

Are there any specific ones that you are interested in as there are nearly as many MU’s as there were Squadrons at that time? Here are a few off the top of my head that may help, I do have a complete listing but it would take to long to transcribe here.
5MU – Kemble
6MU – Brize Norton
7MU – Bibury
8MU – Little Rissington
9MU – Hullavington
10MU – Hullavington
13MU – Henlow
16MU – Stafford
20MU – Aston Down
33MU – Lyneham
39MU – Colerne
etc etc

Hi Moggy, Afraid I don’t know of a complete listing but 19 & 32 MU’s were at St Athan and 27MU was a Shawbury, 389 & 390 MU’s were at Seletar, Singapore.

14 MU was at Carlisle & I know it dealt with clothing & may have dealt with other things as well.
