WW2 Radar – ACO systems

I was wondering if anyone has any information on the Advanced Chain Overseas (ACO) radar system as used in Australia during WW2. It was a British design.

I’m particularly after design details such as photographs and plans or schematics for the radar equipment, masts and igloo buildings. I’m also trying to locate the various ACO stations in Australia.

There is the remains of one (210) just up the road from me that I have visited and photographed on numerous occasions at Toorbul,QLD. I’ve also on a few occasions photographed the one in WA near Rockingham.

Visit http://www.ozatwar.com/raaf/210radar.htm to see a picture of my legs on one of my trips out to Toorbul Radar station .

Cheers,
Chris

Bob,

Your best starting ponit would be to get a copy of ‘Echoes Over The Pacific’ by Ed Simmonds and Norm Smith (ISBN 0 646 24323 3) Which covers the ACO stations and much else besides.
