Hi,
in my collection I have a set of WW2 type (Kings crown) RAF wings.

I bought them from someone who also had the box for the pilot’s service medals but only sold me the wings. (The pilot was a Canadian serving in the RAF).
I wrote to the RAF records months ago but received a reply saying that the records are private and only family members can view them.
The only information I have is what was written on the service medal box:
The medal list shows his service number as 152862
F/Lt. R. Wardell
348 Marten St.
Banff
Alberta
Canada

Is there any more information I can get somewhere without haveing to pretend to be a relative 🙂
cheers,
-John

The London Gazette for 28th January 1944 confirms his appointment as a Pilot Officer in the General Duties Branch of the RAFVR and grants him promotion to Flying Officer as a war substantive rank.

Thanks Peter,
I just had a quick look, if he served with the RCAF it would be easier but he was an RAF officer.
cheers,
