Does anyone have any info or better still, pictures of the above?
Anything WWII relating to Speke is welcomed. Especially pics/info about the Blenheims built at the Rootes shadow factory.
Thanks,
Roy.

Not much but there was an article in Flypast in 1983 I think about the Speke site. The Blenheims were mentioned and there was a photo of the last Halifax produced there.
Cheers

Speke
The Merchant Shipping Fighter Unit was based there. One of my grandma’s neighbours served with the unit. He once told me a story that I always remained a little sceptical of, can anyone confirm it? Here goes.. It was whilst working on an aircraft one day that a DH Rapide touched down at Speke rather heavily, bursting a tyre. The occupants jumped onto the apron and were quickly identified as Bob Hope and an actress of the time. Hope went off to entertain the mess whilst my grandma’s friend was detailed to carry out repairs. When the repairs were finished, Hope reappeared and thanked the men, giving them a pack of cigarettes each and apologising that they had missed the show. As I said, not sure if it true. Perhaps someone in the great beyond that is the internet knows.
All the best,
Dean.
