A marvellous link. Does anyone know what the source(s) are? Some of them look like Charles E Browns I’ve see before, but other are new to me.
It’s the first good top surface picture in colour or mono I’ve ever seen of an RAF Lightning with its unsupercharged engines. The narrow white ring on the wing roundels is intriguiging – I thought by the time they were used in that position, the RAF had given up on the Lightning.
There is a limited supply of WWI colour photographs, too – does anyone know if there are any aeronautical images of that era in colour?
It’s nothing to do with aviation, but anyone with an interest in pioneering colour pictures should have a look at http://www.loc.gov/exhibits/empire/ – a quite extraordinary collection from pre-WWI Russia.

I’ve certainly read of that speed before – but that doesn’t mean it’s right.
