Slightly off topic I guess, but then, maybe not . . .
See here.
Historic aircraft connection? Almost zero except . . . what will happen to PR.9 XH170 that’s Wyton’s Gate Guard?

From English Person: Not really interesting, its an old motor-sailer and a bit of a tub, roughly 25 ft.
By: David Burke - 7th July 2006 at 17:11
English Person – RAF car parks are often the home of decrepid and sometimes interesting cars that are abandoned when people are posted. As for boats – not that common but out of curiousity is it something interesting?
By: English Person - 7th July 2006 at 13:23
Hmmm, perhaps? When I say old cars I mean absolutely trashed cars. And the boats been there years, kinda makes me curious.
By: David Burke - 7th July 2006 at 13:04
English person – old cars in carpark must be because it’s the best place to put them!
Boat near hangar is a bit more difficult – maybe they don’t let them keep it in the hangar because it’s not an aeroplane!
By: English Person - 7th July 2006 at 10:01
I’ve been to Wyton myself several times, and I have never heard of it closing – nice place, can anyone here tell me why there are several old cars sitting in a carpark, and why there is a sailing boat near one of the hangars?

Stirling project
Lets hope (as nobody yet has mentioned it) that the Stirling Project find a hope to relocate to 🙁
TT
Hi all,
Thanks for the concern TEXANTOMCAT, it is worrying to know that you might be booted out as it were due to some of the big’ish items we currently store there. The biggest worry is reserved for what we hope to be obtaining in the near future! This item WILL require a great deal of space!!!!!
Richy.

Lets put it this way, when they were selling off the MQs they were queuing up for days beforehand. And with the region expected to meet the governments new homes targets a brownfield site like Wyton could be very attractive. Mind you, when it comes time to sell off Brampton I wonder if the likes of BPOM and the area around it will be preserved or just knocked down…
And then there is always Alconbury – ripe for developing into a nice new town….:p
One of my friends lives opposite the main gate/F4 in Brampton, I wonder how he feels about the prospective change of use…

Well stapp me sunshine. So, you survived the holiday with the penguins then. You still in?
Good to meet up with you again after all these years. I still glance through r.a.m. occasionally but it’s not the same these days, full of trolls and t***ers.
Good one of 134 TJ, thanks. If you do Waddo next year turn up at the Canberra Assoc enclosure and say Hi.
Oh yes . . . there’s a grouping of two<?> green painted nissen type huts with connecting brick accom section just outside 4 hangar at Wyton (they were still there a year or so back) We always understood these to be part of JARIC. Scenery models were built in there using PI intel from the factory the other side of the road from the main gate. Never really took much notice so, again, could be something completely different I guess.
.
Hi Les,
You are probably right about a JARIC enclave at Wyton. It makes perfect sense! My last tour of duty was JARIC but purely at the main building at Brampton. The new JARIC building at Wyton should be ready by 2010-2011 timeframe.
Nice to hear from you again after all these years. I’ll certainly pop my head in at the enclosure if I’m about next year at Waddo!
Cheers
TJ

What’s a ball park figure for the land value at Wyton ? It must be a prime candidate for housing.
By: merlin101 - 6th July 2006 at 17:24
Saw a TV crew in a Layby filming as I came home tonight, it looks like Wyton will be reduced but not closed.
If it does close what will happen to Marshalls/UAS?
The UAS & AEF squadrons based there are DEFINATELY staying & are to be one of three UAS’s ‘super bases’. Run & looked after by VT Aerospace now.

Call me a Classic Nimby if it makes you feel better Moggs old chap
Erm…
I just did 🙂

Call me a Classic Nimby if it makes you feel better Moggs old chap, but at least I can sleep at night without having knackered old 747s thundering across my rooftop.
…or even call me a Vintage Banana (Build Absolutely Nothing Anywhere Near Anybody) if it helps….
By: Moggy C - 6th July 2006 at 00:02
Now back on topic….
And I bet you never buy anything that has been airfreighted into the UK either?
Classic NIMBYism, I fear.

Who is mocking her?
I find the fact she is being used as a fatuous excuse to hold up a development that could be of great benefit to the Eastern region both sad and more than a little manipulative.
The planning appeal process in this country is a farce.

Thae fact that ADL lied about every aspect of their plans for Alconbury meant that it is never going to be the huge rail and air freight terminal they wanted it to be. Evelyn Glennie was just one of 1000’s of people who voiced their objection to the development, along with the District Council.
As I did. My right I believe.
There would be NO benefit to the Eastern region other than casuing yet more congestion and mayhem on the A14. It wouldn’t create any jobs – Huntingdon and surrounding areas have/had the lowest unemployment figures in the region. 1000’s of properties would be blighted by being stuck under the flightpath of what was hoped to be Europes biggest air freight terminal.
😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡

If you are a croquet-playing, Dome-owning Texan, I think you would find it is fine…
As for Bentwaters, I think the occasional warthog would have made a nice backdrop to the Snape Maltings soundscape….

That she has overcome her disability to become a world class musician should be applauded and not mocked…….

Also Bent Waters. That can’t be used for aircraft incase it upsets the audience at a Benjamin Britten fest in Aldburgh. Have you heard Benjamon Britten’s music?
And doubtless somewhere there’s a rare toad holding up development of some other perfectly good commercial enterprise.
The planning appeal process in this country is a farce.
