A Just mind-blowing achievement. A great read and some pretty remarkable photographs. Unbelievable to think that people were pushing the boundaries of science (and sanity) to such an extent when jet aviation was still developing. After taking so long to conquer the sound barrier, then travelling at such excessive speeds and then into space. Lucky enough to see an X-15 some time back whilst on a road trip in the U.S, was a larger “projectile” than I had expected. At time when extraordinary achievements and development came so rapidly, and all whilst computers were in their infancy.
Hats off to the boffins and the brave pilots involved…
