Talking of Vulcan vortices…….these 2 snaps were taken at the 1971 BoB display at Biggin Hill….the Swordfish was proceeding down the runway, having just landed, as the Vulcan opened its display slot with a low..and as you can see, it was a LOW pass over the Swordfish, which was certainly rocked about by the jetwash……the Swordfish pilots eyes must have been out like organ stops when he saw what was coming down the centreline just above him. Fab, fab days.
And I remember one of the famous wingovers at Mildenhall which was WELL beyond the vertical. I really thought he was about to roll out of it.

I agree about OW. It is a field that really works best with the WW1 stuff as it smacks of RFC fields in France, maybe work OK with WWII things as well.

Theres nothing left this season i could see her flying at. Only realy Old Warden and Duxford. I cant imagine the locals around Old Warden wanting the racket. Duxford maybe.
and there was me hoping for the ultimate Avro fly-by at Old Warden.
The Triplane flying round in a small circle, the Vulcan round in a large circle and all the Avros in between – especially if you could add in BBMF’s Lanc and find a 748 somewhere 🙂

Never mind the racket – I can just imagine her going along the runway, trailing a vortex that sucks the entire Shuttleworth Collection off the ground in its wake! 😮 I just don’t think OW and anything too big and meaty mix.

No point feeling suspense on the matter, still reams of paperwork to wade through before 558 gets anywhere near the end of a runway for a test flight.
Last weeks little problem with hydraulics left them with a engine drop, a critical system repair and after all ahs been wiped down and closed up a repeat of the process to get #3 back up too speed with the other three engines, oh and there is the continuing hunt for snags….even more paperwork, all under the ever watchful eye of the CAA.
However once the paperworks in order, last count around 600 job cards too check off, they can begin the serious work of getting her ready for first flight.
Don’t wish to sound in anyway negative as really I am not, the project is sound but it will be a while yet before she flies and it’s doubtful she will see a show in earnest this season.
I think anybody with realism knows that once its all in check it will fly eventually but we have to face a long wait. Even the smallest a/c has to be spot on, so I guess we just have to wait. Still, all the better when it does happen!

Strewth!!!!
You don’t have these problems on FlightSim:rolleyes:  .
Seriously though,I’m itching to see her coming down Cosford’s display line again.
We saw her a few times during that last hectic season all those years ago and she was fantastic.
Just a few slow passes will be superb, never mind those spirited displays she used to give back in her Service days.
