The sun made an appearance eventually and XH558 looked lovely and shiny! Great appearance by the Lancaster with a nice little display.

Another question, is it just me or does she seem to sit lower than I remember them? COuld be the struts are fully depressurised?[/QUOTE]
Glad someone else answered that!

The gear she currently stands on is temporary and will be replaced with the refurbished ones once they return from the OEM.
She is sitting nose down – apparently she has a lot of ballast in the nose (in place of the radar) to ensure no disasterous tail-sitting occurs. Without the engines in to add weight over the main gear, you get that nose-down attitude….

ah ok I thought maybe they were referring to the lower nose section not thinking they were being smart about the cockpit section :0)

What was the deal about the nose? Something mentioned here on the forum about the nose falling off or something?
In one of the earlier images on this thread there is a pic of a Vulcan cockpit section. I think someone just made a joke out of it. Thats all.

We stayed around and pulled some weeds out of the Q shed base, so left around 4pm and they were just pulling her back in so got a few shots and then got stuck on the M1 😡

Nice 🙂 You stayed until they put her away …. I dashed off after the speech as I didn’t fancy sitting in a queue to get out or getting stuck in the mud that the field would have become if it had rained again!!! (it was a red sports car and not designed for cross-country work! 😀 )

Just a few of mine from a great day in the Bruntingthorpes history and of course 558’s

Good grief, that looks like a big fire in that hangar judging by the smoke, glad they got the Vulcan out in time….

Irreverent Edit – Sorry, can’t resist
SteveSS4L and those responsible for the original reason for the original logo, please don’t take offense, I hope you don’t mind me taking a irreverant speculative view of what we might expect next year:

If I were the project boss I would be having a quiet word with the fitters who were responsible for bolting on the nose section too – good grief they only pushed her out and it came away completely…. 😮 :diablo:
Or was it a stab on the brakes too far? :diablo:
Seriously now – lovely dramatic shots and tantalisingly close to the big day now I hope 🙂
