It’s now October,it was supposed to fly in September and all the hot air has gone remarkably quiet. I really cannot see this becoming a reality anymore ?
Sorry if this sounds negative but press releases seem few and far considering the mighty public interest in this machine ever taking too the air .

Paul,
Any idea of the actual outcome of the test flight ? I mean did they find any glitches & gremlins etc…?
.
The crew stated that no problems occured. They took off with David Thomas calling the speed. The first test was at 2000ft, however she is very very spritley and when they looked they were at 4000ft and had to reduce the power.
Indeed, 558 does not need much runway, she was up by the time she was past the old control tower.
Daily Mail Online has the best sound bite:
Speaking immediately after the flight, Squadron Leader McDicken said: “She was an absolute delight, every bit as good as I can remember. It was a tremendous privilege to fly it again. We were suitably aroused”

You will have to wait – the AEO goes on holiday tomorrow for two weeks!

Hi Lotus 72 … just back from a nice trip round the M25 🙁
I’ve just read on the TVOC forum that it’s a no-go today, as both the firetrucks have broken down.
The Vulcams are showing her still in the hanger with most of the lights off now.
Sad, but at least it means that next week will be almost as exciting as this one has been!
By: lotus72 - 19th October 2007 at 14:28
thanks indeed for that, Jim, it’s nearly 2.30 now. A no-go for today??

Hi Lotus72,
At the moment, nothing to report – she’s still in the hanger, intake covers and shoe covers in place.
Jim
I’ll get some kip now then…was scanning the sky just incase I missed out. Typhoons are busy today.
Cheers Jim

I think everyone is doing similar!!
There’s been over 100 people viewing the Vulcams most of this morning … the anticipation is killing me … just wondering how quickly I could make the drive from East Grinstead to Bruntingthorpe … :p

I’m having a real hard time getting the Vulcams to work……can anyone update me?

It flies and BBC main news yesterday – Zilch.
Mark
Yes M12 – sounds like an organised ‘official’ first flight is in order with lots of invited media present, as soon as the testing regime allows. Hopefully on a day not overshadowed buy other events too.
I can sympathise with their wanting to keep a low profile on the real first flight and was almost a bit surprised when it appeared on Sky. All the first flights I have been present at and witnessed (OK small things such as Spitfires and Hurricanes) were done in much the same way with more ‘fuss’ made once the Permit was issued (not to say a few glasses of fizzy were not consumed on the day of course).

Anyone manning the Vulcam?
I am checking three different forums, just in case and can only conclude that everyone is at Bruntingthorpe.

A rumour reported on another forum (I think it was TVOCs) was possibly 2pm but not confirmed and it is nearly too late for me to get there now, I don’t fancy a 200 mile round trip on a rumour.

any news on a flight today??

I haven’t seen anything on TV regarding yesterdays flight – they’re not interested in the triumphs, just the tragedies. A shame really because in the hearts and minds of the great unwashed the Vulcan is pretty much the people’s aeroplane – “…it’s all down to the unique way it was funded” (apologies to the BBC for knicking their catch phrase!).
I guess that there’ll be a big fanfare/PR event when the testing is complete… hope so.

Is there to be another flight today? I hope so.

Media puzzle.
For me the turning point of this project, when it was in its darkest hour and cash crisis, was the live BBC Breakfast broadcast from Brunty. It tipped the balance and the pledges flowed.

At least now I know WTF it was that woke me up at 4.27am this morning here in LA……Thought it was a minor quake…

At what point does another flight (today now) become impossible to achieve due to broken vehicles?
