Never seen this moral dilema on the forum! Some people would be wishing the donation board be displayed outside their ‘ex significant other’s’
abode to prove they would rather spend money on old aeroplanes rather than a romantic meal !

Issue is

Between now and Christmas, the Trust will be consolidating our various lists and information sources to create a searchable online listing of everyone who has contributed.

Once it is announced and populated, we will give time for it to be checked and corrected if necessary before a final ‘travelling wall’ will be produced for Hangar 3 and placed on display in time for summer.

it is going to be publicly searchable so it can be corrected, so waiting to be contacted definitely isn’t an option if you’re in the middle of a messy break-up and would rather not have someone know that you were rather generous last year. Putting the onus on donors to withdraw their details before it is made public is questionable.
This is assuming that there isn’t something in the methods used to solicit donations that cover this off.

Before we get in front of ourselves why don’t we wait until we are contacted for our details to be confirmed when we can request not to be included. Or better still contact VTTS NOW and tell them you do not wish to be included. Job done!:)

If you knew that your name was going to be viewable in public when you made the donation, you might have flagged it as anonymous (or not to be made public).

Playing devils advocate for the moment:

“A wall of honour recognising everyone who made it possible”

The Data Protection legislation springs to mind.

Huh? From a foreigner’s POV – would having a name on a wall be a privacy issue?

Do those of us who bought merchandise in the lead-up to the first flight in 2007 count for The Wall, or is it intended for folks who specifically donated funds? My XH558 keychain has been with me ever since 🙂

Electric powered HP 42 “Hengist” for instance with 4 x 250 kW Siemens electric engines and 300 m2 solar panels ( yielding 1/10th of the needed power ) cruising at 200 kts ( slightly refined aerodynamics ) would be cool.

😉

And lotsa cash of course.

“No problemo” Mr C 🙂

Incidentally the following might interest a few on here;

“Following on from Guy’s Spitfire programme he will once again look to the sky in his next Channel 4 programme. ‘Guy Martin’s Last Flight of the Vulcan Bomber’ airs Sunday 29th November on Channel 4 at 19.30 hrs.

The last airworthy Vulcan bomber, XH558, flew for the final time to great fanfare in October of this year. This iconic plane played a pivotal role in protecting UK interests in the post-World War II era as the first nuclear deterrent, and was also responsible for the longest raid in British military history when it successfully attacked the Falkland Islands.

Mechanic Guy Martin has been given unprecedented access to the aircraft, helping a select group of engineers prepare it for an ambitious farewell tour around of Britain. He also gets the rare chance to fly alongside the plane in formation, as well as taking the controls to try and “wheelie” the 70 tonne aircraft along a runway.

This 90 minute documentary is the definitive story of the Vulcan Bomber, featuring expert contributions from Vulcan pilots and crew who were faced with the awesome responsibility of dropping nuclear bombs”.

^^^^^^^^^ Agreed but you seem to have people on here who would slag off anything associated with them ^^^^^^^^^^^ Can’t win with them.

Well yes, but we know them well and their comments always wholly predictable are easy to pass over!!:)

I’m not slagging anyone off. When I donated to them I wasn’t expecting any kind of recognition, as just seeing them keep the thing in the air was recognition enough for my donation.
I’ve been more than happy to donate to the Speke HS748, the North East Trident and the Coventry Shackleton projects without any expectation of recognition except maybe a ‘thank you’ email!

I actually think it’s a nice gesture.

The VTST have been slammed in the past for not appreciating the donations they have been given and in the early years there were no ‘certificates or shares’ to buy, just hand over the money.

A list of donors appears on a wall adjacent to a new theatre near here. The donors will have the pleasure of watching performances in a theatre they made possible and their act has been recorded publicly. Perhaps the VTTS plan is not unique. As a donor I have no feelings for or against.

Can’t quite see why they feel the need to do this. The money donated was to keep the Vulcan in the air and that was achieved with a resounding success despite what some might say. So, surely that was the reward, the payback and therefore the recognition of the donors generosity. Or am I missing something?

Donors will be contacted once the details are clear and then presumably there is the option to decline. No costs to the donors have been mentioned.

“It is also ideal for Christmas Gift ideas from the Vulcan shop.”

Nothing says Christmas like a 180,000 pound nuclear delivery system. 🙂

Blimey there are 70,000 of us!!!

Honouring everyone that made it happen!
“The Spirit of Great Britain – Those who made it happen” – 1999-2015

A wall of honour recognising everyone who made it possible

It will be a massive task, but the Trust is committed to recording and honouring every single person who has donated £1 or more between 1999 and the end of 2015.

Time after time, it has been donations from people from all over the world that has allowed everyone’s dream to become a reality – the most complex aviation restoration project in the world followed by eight spectacular flying seasons – and everyone should be rightly proud of that achievement.

Once the aircraft moves to the new facilities planned, the wall will move with her.

Best of all, if you are a donor you need to do nothing now.

We do the work and our newsletters will give you the full details for checking that your entry is correct before we produce anything final. We estimate over 70,000 names are eligible for this honour.

DO KEEP FOLLOWING THESE NEWSLETTERS FOR GREAT NEW DEVELOPMENTS.

Shop for Christmas at our next Family day – this Sunday 22nd November
BRING THE FAMILY TO SEE XH558 THIS SUNDAY hangar
Our Family Days prove highly popular and this Sunday sees another in Hangar 3. Picture: Taff Stone.

This coming Sunday 22nd November, we open the hangar for another of our very popular Family Days, where admission is by arrival at reception.* Adults are £5 and Children under 16 are £2. This is an ideal way of getting close to XH558, seeing the hangar exhibits and in taking part in a range of family-orientated activities. It is also ideal for Christmas Gift ideas from the Vulcan shop.

Fun and interest for everyone. Give your children one great day out!

Doors open at 11am and close at 2pm. Last admission is at 1pm.

* Other hangar tours require booking in advance

That will be me as well then.
