XL391 Support

To make life easier I have started a new thread to make llife easier to track the progress of hopefully saving the nose section of XL391 which is currently in a scrap yard in Cheshire.

Enquries have been made and the nose is still available so now it is a case of seeing what interest can be generated to see if the nose can realistically be purchased and stored/displayed somewhere.

Having scanned across at least 3 other threads (!) the list so far of parties interested in helping are (in no particualr order) –

Olympus Swan
XL391
Rocketeer
Wildcat
Myself
& Barn Owl with some man power 😉

If you are interested in helping please send me a PM to discuss further. 🙂

Jon

scrap it! Only thing I would do is to remove everythng that can be unscrewed/unbolted. Might come handy in the restoration of another Vulcan. doors/panels/flooring/windows/….

Pretty sure that scrapping it was the current owner has in mind if she hasn’t already gone…!

at 5k he is yanking your chain. Add on the other costs of moving and rebuilding her and you might as well get married – it’s cheaper.

Hate to break it to you Roy, but the average cost of weddings in the UK these days is £14,000. I managed to get mine in around £10,000.

Given that a Vulcan nose starts to look pretty reasonable…

Wow
I do not know guys.. after the last shocking photos I am leaning towards the “let it go” crowd!
Would it not be possible to remove anything worth salvaging including the door etc ?

I took a slight back seat on this over the past couple of days – Pete (Vulcan-Love) was dealing with the yard….

It has popped off this mortal coil and joined the choir invisbule! – next line if I remember correctly…

Well as was said from the outset if it couldn’t be saved for a reasonable amount then admit defeat and walk away. So I would say unless the flight deck can be cut out and saved for not much money (i know…! lol 🙂 ) I think that point has been reached….

im 391, the falkland’s boast
landed 83 on bateson’s coast
since been passed
from pillar to post
lookin for the hands
that love the most
fearing the crusher
fearing the ghost
braving the weather
in search of a host.

my poem to 391, by Pete.
(ok i guess when she landed 83 ! )
