XM594 Sold!

NEW VULCAN OWNER

Newark [Nottinghamshire & Lincolnshire] Air Museum’s Trustees are pleased to announce that the new owner of the Avro Vulcan B.2 XM594, which is displayed at the museum, is the Lincolnshire’s Lancaster Association.

Having initially purchased Avro Shackleton Mk.3 WR977 in the late 1990s, the Vulcan becomes the second Avro airframe that the Lincolnshire’s Lancaster Association have on loan with the UK’s largest volunteer managed aviation museum.

“The Museum Trustees are delighted with this decision, which ensures that both aircraft will remain at the museum site on Winthorpe Airfield”, Commented Museum Trustee Howard Heeley, he concluded, “We are also looking forward to the possibility of forming an even closer working relationship with the Lincolnshire’s Lancaster Association, which we believe will help secure the long-term future of both aircraft for future generations”.[04.03.05]

Hi Lancman

Of course you have a right to speak up – I am trying to say there should not be a fuss about this when there are much more important issues to look at here – thats all a bit of proportion wouldn’t hurt would it ?

As an LLA member I have perfect right to express an opinion about where my membership money goes, and as I am a member to directly support the Lanc in particular and the BBMF in general, I am a little mystified as to why the LLA is now putting it’s funds about in this manner. It’s not called the LVA, you know.

So, not ‘tripe’ at all.

Hi David

Yep everyone has their right to have a say – I often come 12,000 mile to look at all these aircraft and even I have an opinion – everywhere I go in the UK I look at airframes exposed to dreadful conditions – corrosion traking it’s toll, mould , vandalism etc It’s all very sad and I know everyone tries their best but I tell you the one thing that needs to happen is getting all the best airframes under cover soon or it will all soon be achademic and nobody wants to visit the site of a former museum………

I agree violently with 90% of your post you obviously care about all of this as much as I do.

Well said

Kindest regards
John P

Setter- I think the members of the LLA are more than entitled to have their say. Newark is a very good example of a privately run museum which is decidedly on the up.
However with a limited amount of money around for hangarage it’s a matter of getting undercover the significant types and avoiding meaningless duplication. We have a number of Doves for example undercover but it’s competitor in the shape of the Prince is represented by just two examples in short nose format and both of those could be deemed as being in long term risk from the elements.
I appreciate your comments on the corrosion – we need museums to co-operate more and refine collections and collecting policies.

Honestly from 12,000 miles away this looks so bizare – what is all the fuss about – an aircraft that could have left a major collection and become saucepans like the other one recently has now got a permanent home and the Lanc will still fly so whats the grief – I think everyone needs a good stiff brandy and a good lie down – worry about something significant like how do all the aircraft at newark get under cover or at all those other great museums in the UK – your heritage is slowly corroding into the ground and you all worry about this tripe – Shame I say!

Kindest regards

Oh for gawd sake can you not be happy that a Vulcan that was on display has now been secured in its current location?

As far as I am concerned PA474 is still on charge with the RAF and should be funded via my taxes as such.

Long may both cases continue. This is very good news.

As a member of LLA, I think I’d rather all their funding/attention stayed PA474/BBMF-bound, but there you go.

Couldn’t have put it any better.
