Does anyone have any idea what the plan for the Waddo Vulcan is.
Their were several posts on Prune late last year about it being restored but their seems to be little or no progress in fact rumors about it being scraped are going around.
This should not be allowed to happen this Vulcan must be worth saving after all its one of only a few from the Falklands war even if the RAF want to get rid could it not be moved over to the WAVE site ?

The best way forward for museum Vulcs is to get the 201 end caps reproduced in GRF and get a job lot done. Though getting all the museums to commit to this would prove a task I think.
Or 558 will use 201 end caps up and TVOC could auction u/s ones to museums as 558 goes through them during its flight career.
Same action for the few 301 Vulcs but it will cost just as much really.
At the end of the day and after 20 years of static museums pieces, there are plenty of things a Vulc needs to maintain its cosmetic appearence for the next 20 years.

What are the opinions available to those surviving vulcans for needing replacements?
Can they be reproduced or repaired?

Mag alloy I think, there are one of the first things to corrode on a Vulcan. Even when in the RAF, they did not last long.

End Caps?
What are the end caps on the Vulcan made off?

We are on a promise of 4 new 301 end caps for 655, and should be with us duringthe summer.

Her end caps need replacing and hopefully later in the year the end caps from XM655 at Wellesbourne will be donated to XM607.
Er why what about XM655 why wont it need the end caps ?
I was thinking much the same thing. Unless XM655 already has a set of spares that are in better nick, and so is donating the current set? Can’t imagine that the XM655 boys would leave their bird unprotected, so presumably they must have a contingency.
XM607 did look rather impressive when I last saw her, during the Waddington airshow three (? – the year the Israelis brought the F15 in) years ago. Managed to get some pretty good shots of the Vulcan with a load of Honda Goldwings parked in Vee formation in front of it. No idea what it was in aid of, but it looked rather fun.

Correct – you won’t get in XM607 I’m afraid. However XM602 will be travelling around the UK and you will be able to get inside that.
If you know any surplus stores still selling Vulcan items, do let me know, I am missing the odd items in my cockpits.

odd
Odd too see a display airframe pillaged to fit out a cockpit. What are the plans? I doubt XM607s cockpit will be open for viewing, after all now theres nothing to see.
i thought the MOD would charge a fortune for those parts? Why not get them from surplus stores?
By: Vulcan903 - 25th May 2004 at 15:38
Many of the items are now in the Vulcan Cockpit section XM602 which is the one based at BAE Systems Woodford.
By: SADSACK - 25th May 2004 at 12:36
I guess the items are stored on the base somewhere?

For many years the crew door could not open. Then one Waddo air show access was achieved and the contents could be seen being loaded into a Transit van. Station Commander approved this excercise, though I would have left such an important airframe as complete as poss in the cockpit.

why is she gutted?

Not sure about Waddo, but XM607 has a new home on the base closer to the A15. There is a small team on site looking after her. Her end caps need replacing and hopefully later in the year the end caps from XM655 at Wellesbourne will be donated to XM607.
The cockpit inside is entirly gutted though, which is a shame.
